SOPHIE STROCEN Sophie Strocen was born September 18, 1918, and raised on a farm outside of Canora, Saskatchewan. She married Joseph Strocen in 1948. They had their only child, a son, Mel in 1949, and moved to British Columbia in 1954. After 10 years in British Columbia they relocated to Winnipeg where Sophie has lived ever since. Her husband Joe passed away in 1973. Sophie was a member of St. Josaphat Ukrainian Catholic Church, where she joined the Ladies Guild, and was very active in helping the Parish and the community. In her later years, Sophie served as an active member at Ellice Place where she lived from 1982 - 2002. She was a kitchen convener, helped at charity yard sales, bingo nights and most special events. Sophie was on several Executive Committees for her senior's residence and was honoured many times with their awards of appreciation. Sophie is predeceased by her parents, three brothers and three sisters. She is survived by her son Mel Strocen; daughter-in-law Karin; two grandchildren, Neill and wife Aynsley Strocen, and Erin Strocen, and one great-grandchild Allie Strocen. Funeral service will be held on Thursday, January 4, 2007 at 2:00 p.m. at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main St. Interment will follow in Brookside Cemetery. CROPO FUNERAL CHAPEL 586-8044
