JOHN MORRISON STOKES It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved father and grandfather John Stokes, who passed away March 29, 2007 at the Maples Personal Care Home at the age of 89. Dad was predeceased by his beloved wife Margaret to whom he was married for 57 years. Left to cherish his memory are his sons, Bryan (Rita), grandchildren Christine and Michel; Christopher (Marilyn) and granddaughter Ashley. John was born in Winnipeg on November 2, 1917 where he spent his whole life. Dad met the love of his life, Margaret through the Winnipeg Boys and Girls Club. Mom and Dad were married November 7, 1942 and settled in Norwood. Soon after they were married Dad was sent overseas to serve in the Second World War. He was very proud to be able to serve his country. They raised their family in Norwood and were both very involved in the Norwood United Church. Dad worked for the Provincial Government for 34 years, and after his retirement he worked as the Executive Director of the Downtown Winnipeg Association. Dad was a member of the Norwood Masonic Lodge. In 1951 Dad and Mom, with the help of their friends and family, built their cottage at Brereton Lake. Dad's cottage was a labour of love, he was always thinking of ways to add to its natural beauty. He loved the evening swims at the end of a hard days work. When Dad was no longer able to go to the cottage it provided him with wonderful memories of times spent with family and friends. An informal memorial reception will be held on Tuesday April 3, 2007 from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. in Thomson In the Park Funeral Home 1291 McGillivray Blvd. The family wishes to thank the staff at the Maples Personal Care Home for taking such loving care of Dad. If friends so desire, memorial donations may be made to the charity of one's choice Thomson In the Park Funeral Home and Cemetery 1291 McGillivray Blvd www.thomsoninthepark.com 925-1120 Please bring a tin for the bin help us support Winnipeg Harvest
