MARTIN STUPAK It is with deep sadness that our family announces the peaceful passing of our Father, Grandfather and Great-Grandfather Martin Stupak, just short of 90 years, on August 12, 2007, at the Grace Hospital. He is survived by his son Edward (Yvonne) of Milton, Ontario, and daughter Audrey (Greg) Mutter of Winnipeg, Grandchildren Carol, Cathy (Colin Hagen), Susanne (Jeff) Weber, Steven (Shauna) and Eric, Great-Grandchildren Kathleen, William and Lucas Hagen, brothers Stan and Walter (Elsie) and many dear nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife Kathleen Teresa (Kay) in 1997, his parents Michael and Anna, brothers Johnny and Frank and sister Jessie. Dad was born in Winnipeg on October 9, 1917. The family moved to Selkirk when he was young and that was where he went to school and started work as a market gardener. This experience led to a lifelong enjoyment in vegetable and flower gardening. He retired from gardening just this year but kept his hand in directing the planting season. Through the years he freely shared the fruits of his labour from his gardens. Fishing, hunting, sports, car repair, music and cribbage were just some of the many interests and talents he enjoyed. Dad was involved in competitive cycling which had a lot to do with keeping his strength and fitness up in later years. During the Second World War Dad enlisted in the Air Force and excelled in anything to do with aircraft maintenance. After the war Martin worked for the CNR in various positions from machinist to fuel inspector and finally retiring as a purchasing agent. Retirement found him busier than ever with volunteering for Meals on Wheels, Neighbourhood Watch, maintaining the greenest lawn in the neighbourhood, enjoying visiting with friends and helping his family fix, paint or construct anything needed. Martin and Kay enjoyed 54 years of marriage. In his retirement years they traveled and spent many happy vacations in England, Europe and Florida. Martin was a faithful parishioner of Blessed John XXIII for over 40 years and enjoyed the fellowship of the parishioners, assisting Kay who was the choir organist for more than 25 years. Dad lived life to the fullest; he enjoyed being independent and active for his age. He was always the perfect gentleman. When he went out anywhere he wore a suit, tie and in the colder weather, his famous felt fedora. He made friends easily and loved to tell his life stories to anyone who would listen. He was an eternal optimist, feeling that he could overcome any health conditions that challenged him. Dad's concern and love for his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren was always evident by the way he encouraged them to be the best they could be. We miss him but know that he is now reunited with Mom. Prayers were said on Wednesday, August 15, 2007. Funeral mass will be concelebrated by Msgr. Comeault and Msgr. Chartrand on Thursday, August 16, 2007, at 11:00 a.m. at Blessed John XXIII, Portage and Rouge Rd. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society Manitoba Division or the Heart and Stoke Foundation of Manitoba. Arrangements entrusted to: Chapel Lawn Funeral Home 885-9715
