MARIA DOS ANJOS BORGES It is with deep sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of our wife and mother, Maria Dos Anjos Borges on November 30, 2008, with her family at her side at the Seven Oaks Hospital at the age of 63 years. Maria leaves behind her loving husband of 42 years, Manuel Borges and her two beloved children who meant the world to her son, Manuel (Susan) and daughter, Emilia (Vasco) along with two granddaughters Mackenzie and Megan. Besides her immediate family Maria leaves behind her brothers Agostinho (Deolinda) Cabral, José (Valdomira) Cabral of Toronto, sister Maria Isabel Costa, sisters-in-law Lucia Maria Cabral, Fernanda Cabral, Maria Dos Anjos Almeida of Sao Miguel and Natalia Borges of Sao Miguel, brothers-in-law, Mariano (Donaria) Borges of Markham, José (Maria Rosa) Borges of Sao Miguel, and Joao Borges of Sao Miguel. She also leaves behind many nephews, nieces, godchildren and friends. She was predeceased by her parents Agostinho Cabral and Maria Do Carmo Vieira, brothers Manuel Cabral and Fernando Cabral, brothers-in-law Moses Almeida, Antonio Borges, Raul Borges and Manuel Costa and sisters in law Iria Borges and Maria Adriana Borges. Maria was born on May 6, 1945 in Arrifes, Sao Miguel, Açores. She came to Canada in 1963 and worked in the garment industry, until 2004 when she took an early retirement to look after her loving husband who needed her care. Maria lived a full and happy life. She loved her family more than anything in the world. Her husband was the love of her life and best friend; there was nothing she would not do for him. She cherished family times the most and being together especially with her granddaughters. She found pleasure in watching the Portuguese satellite network with her husband by her side. She was a very private person who sponsored many causes close to her heart. She could never say no to someone in need. She enjoyed taking bus trips with her sister to run errands around the city. She loved socializing with family and friends from the old country . She was fortunate to have had great neighbours first in the West End and later in the Maples, where her neighbours became family to her. Maria loved Jesus, God and our Holy Mother of heaven. She found comfort in prayer and the rosary and in the love and promises of Jesus. She was a prayer member of the Legion of Mary. She attended every religious event whenever possible. In her last show of affection for our heavenly mother, she insisted on donating for the flower decorations of the church for the celebration of the 125th anniversary of the Immaculate Conception parish. She was looking forward to seeing a picture of the church decorated as she knew she could not attend. She will be present in spirit on the festival day. Through her illness Maria was always patient, loving, understanding, strong and accepting of what the future held for her. Her Thank You and smiles to all who visited her made every one feel loved by her when they left. The family wishes to thank all the visitors who brought comfort and kind words to Maria. Especially to the wonderful staff at the Seven Oaks Hospital 5 Units 1, 2, 3 and Dr. Fatoye and the KMC residents. An extended gratitude and appreciation to those that brought the most comfort, care and compassion to Maria in her last days - her nephew Paulo Cabral and sister-in-law Lucia Cabral, sister-in-law Deolinda Cabral for making sure that Manuel was well fed during this time, her sister Maria Costa, neighbour Deolinda Gomes, friends Francisco Coelho and Sergia Carvalho and Portuguese speaking hospital staff Paula, Helena and Madalena. Prayers will be held on Thursday, December 4, 2008 at 5:30 p.m. at Immaculate Conception Church, 181 Austin Street North. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, November 5, 2008 at 10:00 a.m. at Immaculate Conception Church with Rev. Fr. José Eduardo Medeiros celebrant.
