BARBARA BOURBONNIERE (nee JAFFRAY) Peacefully, after a lengthy struggle with cancer, Barbara Anne Bourbonniere passed away on February 12, 2009 at Riverview Health Centre, her family by her side. Left to mourn her passing are her husband of more than 36 years, Tom; her mother, Anne Brown; her children, Elizabeth (Curtis) and Mark (Shauna); infant granddaughters Catrina and Allura; uncles, Bill Blyth of Dryden and Doug (Betty) Blyth of Portage la Prairie; and brother-in-law John (Mitzi) Bourbonniere, and niece Michelle of White Rock, BC. Barbara was predeceased by her father, William Jaffray, in 1990. Barbara was born in Winnipeg on July 11, 1948, and spent her childhood in Elmwood, graduating from Elmwood High School in 1967. As a teenager, she was highly involved in high school athletics and participated actively in the activities of her youth group at Grey Street United Church. She met her future husband, Tom, at the age of sixteen, and married him in 1972. Following graduation, Barbara worked at Manitoba Blue Cross for a number of years, leaving the workplace in order to raise her children. Barbara was a devoted wife and mother who made her home and family her priority. She enjoyed hosting family occasions, baking, and being involved in her family's lives. Throughout her final illness, Barbara remained positive and upbeat and sought to maintain her connections with others, enjoying the time she was given. In celebration of Barbara's life, a private family memorial service will be held. In lieu of flowers, if friends so desire, donations may be made to CancerCare Manitoba, 1160-675 McDermot Ave, Winnipeg, MB R3E 0V9. God saw you getting weary, And a cure was not to be; So He put His arms around you And whispered, Come with Me. With tearful eyes we watched you, And saw you pass away, And though we loved you dearly, We could not make you stay. A golden heart stopped beating, Hard-working hands were put to rest God broke our hearts to prove to us He only takes the best.
