Date of Passing: Feb 21, 2009
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryROBERT JOHN BOTTERILL Suddenly, on Saturday, February 21, 2009 Robert John Botterill passed away on his farm near Newton, Manitoba at the age of 62. He was predeceased by his wife Sheryl; father Arthur and mother Edna. Left to cherish his memory are his son Todd (Jill) Botterill of Winnipeg; daughter Niki (Darren) Sutor of Winnipeg; sister Margie (Willie) Grant of Sherwood Park, Alberta; granddaughters, Elyssa Erlendson, Sierra Erlendson and Jazilynn Botterill, and loving companion Irene Peters of Southport. Bob was born in Portage la Prairie and raised on the family farm near Newton, Manitoba. Growing up he worked on the farm with his father Arthur. As a young man he worked in several different camps in Northern Manitoba during the winters as a welder. Eventually he started his own farm and after marrying Sheryl Williams in 1974 began raising his family. His life revolved around work on the farm and his strong work ethic was well known to any who had been around him. He could never turn down a good deal and could usually be found at any local auction sale. This hobby eventually led to the creation of Botterill Sales where he focused on special types of shortline machinery. Many company reps were amazed by how he seemed to know everyone who came around his booth and the number of people who made sure they stopped just to say hi . In the last few years Bob had also become well known at the local Oldtime Dance Halls. He was known as a man who would give you the shirt off of his back and never expect anything back in return. He showed his love to his family everyday by going out of his way to help them without being asked. A Memorial Service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 28, 2009 at the Portage Alliance Church with Pastor Mark Hughes officiating. As expressions of sympathy, if friends so wish, donations may be made in Bob's memory to Maple Grove Cemetery, RR3 Site 42 Comp 6, Portage la Prairie, MB R1N 3A3 in lieu of flowers. The family would also like to thank the Portage Fire Department, emergency medical technicians and neighbours who reacted so quickly in an attempt to save Bob. Words cannot say how much your help these last few days have meant to us. A tree will be planted in memory and cared for by McKenzies Portage Funeral Chapel www.mckenziesportagefuneralchapel.com 857-4021
