PHOEBE ALLEN WUIRCH (nee HADDON) MARCH 27, 2009 It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Phoebe Wuirch. Mom will be lovingly remembered by her children Wayne (Lorraine,), Wendy, Barb (Rob), and Gary (Jennifer); her precious grandchildren Rhonda (Derek), Jeff (Kim), Josh (Kelleigh), Kimberly and Melissa; her great-grandchildren Taylor, Seth and Madison; many nieces and nephews; and her brother Gordon Haddon. She was predeceased by husband Richard in 1996. Phoebe was born in Winnipeg, March 29th, 1920. Her youth was spent with her many friends on Carlaw Ave. She often talked about the many escapades they had throughout the years. Mom and Dad were married October 28th, 1939. She raised us kids with a no-nonsense attitude, just as she handled all her affairs in life. Phoebe escaped her job as Mom with a part-time job as a sales clerk at The Bay. Throughout life, Mom's downtime was her bingo; Lord Roberts on Wednesday nights and later at the Fort Garry and Fort Rouge Legions. She especially liked the mini-jack games at Club Regent. Her greatest pleasure was the many years spent at Gull Lake. How she managed with six of us in a trailer amazed us all. In 1969 they purchased land. The dream of having a cottage began, which quickly became her pride and joy. Despite her age, Mom still maintained her own home and spent many weeks at Gull Lake last summer. She loved to help' Michael and share a root beer with him or to visit and play cards with Brian and Darlene. The memories of summers at the lake will be in our hearts forever, as will you. You lived your life independently and it is one of the many strengths you have passed on to your children. We love you and you will be greatly missed. With respect to Mom's wishes, there will be no service. A Celebration of Life will be held at the Dakota Bowls Clubhouse, 1212 Dakota Street, Friday, April 3, 2009 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. A special thank you to Dr. Thorlakson for your optimism and compassion. Also, thank you to Darren, Elizabeth and the staff at the Vic who cared for Mom. Memorial donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke or a charity of your choice.
