PETER BOYKO On Tuesday, June 2, 2009 Peter Boyko, age 87, passed away peacefully at Arborg Personal Care Home. Peter and his twin sister Tina, were the youngest of seven children. He was predeceased by his parents, Sam and Mary Boyko, his sisters Anne Zacharki, Nellie Chomitsa, Jennie Marko, and Tina Ryback, as well as his brother Bill Boyko. Peter is survived by his sister Tillie Yanisiw, his sister-in-law Jean Boyko, his brother-in-law Mike Marko and many nieces and nephews. Peter attended Sambor Public School. As a young man, Peter worked for a short time in the nickel mine in Flin Flon, Manitoba but then returned to the family farm in Skylake where he worked first with his parents, and then on his own when he inherited the farm. Peter moved to Arborg in 1969. He worked at the Arborg Hospital and later at the Personal Care Home. Peter loved the outdoors and enjoyed spending time gardening, hunting, fishing, and picking mushrooms and blueberries. He was always very proud of his prize tomatoes and would generously share the sunflowers, berries, or vegetables that grew so well in his garden. Peter always welcomed visitors to his home with a cup of coffee and a piece of pie or some other treat that he had on hand. He was a kind and gentle man who will be sadly missed by his family and friends. Prayers will be held on Monday, June 8 at 7:00 p.m. at MacKenzie Funeral Chapel in Arborg. Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday, June 9 at 10:30 a.m. at the Sacred Heart Ukrainian Catholic Church in Arborg, followed by an interment at the St. Philips Roman Catholic Cemetery. Peter's family would like to thank the staffs at Red River Place in Selkirk and the Arborg Personal Care Home in Arborg for their care and support. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Personal Care Home in Arborg. Arborg (MacKenzie) Funeral Home in care of arrangements.
