STEVE KOPYTKO 1928 - 2009 With sadness, the family announces that Dad passed away at his home on November 26, 2009 after a courageous battle with heart disease. Steve leaves to mourn his passing, his beloved wife Beatrice; son Wayne; daughters, Dianne Zuk (Bill) and Darlene Skimming (Peter); along with granddaughter Shelley Spray (Chris); grandsons, Chris Zuk (Polly Washburn) and Jeff Zuk (Joanna); and great-granddaughter Evelyn Zuk. He is also survived by siblings, Annie, Boris, Christina, Elsie, Eva and Larry. Dad was born in Alonsa, Manitoba, one of a large family and left home early at the age of 15 to join the Canadian Army. He served in England as a motorcycle courier during the Second World War and later saw service in Korea. In postwar years, Dad owned and operated transport trucks and had a long and successful career as a professional truck driver for a variety of firms. He also worked as a mechanic at CN Intermodal, later ending his career on the road, behind the wheel of an 18-wheeler. Steve's passions included his family, reading, dancing, flying and the value of education. His other interests included being a proud member of the Legion and ANAVETS, and for decades, he unselfishly donated his rare blood type. Dad was gregarious and shared his sense of humour with those he met. He will be greatly missed. A Service of Remembrance service will be held at 1:00 p.m., Tuesday, December 1, 2009 at Bardal Funeral Chapel, 843 Sherbrook St. Interment to follow in St. Vital Cemetery. 843 Sherbrook Street, 774-7474 Ample parking available behind the funeral home.
