ANNA BRAUN It is with sadness that we announce the passing of our sister and aunt, Anna Braun on February 9, 2010 at the Bethania Personal Care Home. Anna was born on January 1, 1910 in the village of Nova Petrovka, Ukraine. When she was only ten years old, in 1920 she lost her dad to typhoid fever. It was a time of unrest in the country, so Mother and her ten children decided to immigrate to Canada and settled on a farm in Meadows, Manitoba. They found a church in Pigeon Lake, about five miles from where they lived and attended regularly. Soon the girls looked for housekeeping employment in Winnipeg and so Anna joined them. She and her sister, Agatha, took a dressmaking course. Anna became involved in teaching it and started night classes. In 1947 she went to the M.C.I. in Gretna and completed Grade 12. Since Mother and two sisters had moved to Ontario, Anna also came to Ontario and took her Normal School in London, Ontario. She taught for seven years at Go Home Bay, Penitang, Ontario. In order to be closer to her family she then moved to Dryden, Ontario. Her summers were mostly spent taking courses at the University. In 1976, Anna retired from teaching and moved to Winnipeg where she spent the rest of her life. She spent time enjoying God's wonderful creation by travelling. Anna was predeceased by her parents, Isaak and Agatha Braun, four brothers, Jacob (Susie), Peter (Elizabeth), Isaak (Helen), Nick (Eva) and three sisters, Mary (Jacob) Thun, Margaret (Jacob) Koop, Agatha (John) Enns and three nieces Irma Mathies, Betty (Dave) Woelk and Hilda Thiessen. Anna will be missed by her two sisters, Tina Driedger, Lena Braun, fifteen nieces and nephews, their families, and many friends. The family wishes to thank the staff at Bethania Personal Care Home most sincerely for the loving care they gave to Anna. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of choice. Funeral Service will take place at the Douglas Mennonite Church, 1517 Rothesay Street, on Friday, February 12, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. Glen Eden Funeral Home 338-7111
