Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryETHEL EDITH EVANGELINE BRACKEN (nee Ozouf) December 21, 1913 - February 19, 2010 With heartfelt sadness and everlasting love, we announce the peaceful passing of our beloved wife, mother and grandmother Ethel Bracken on Friday, February 19, 2010. Ethel's bright light began to shine for her parents Edith and Harold Ozouf on December 21, 1913 in Fairford, MB. The family lived in Northern Manitoba, later moved to Selkirk where Ethel received her high school education before settling in Clandeboye where she married Albert Bert Ryan in 1939. Together they lovingly nurtured five children and nephew on the Ryan farm. Ethel was a loving wife and mother, always cooking, baking, sewing and supporting her family. As with all farm wives, Ethel was always ready for unexpected company who never left hungry. With the children out of the house, Ethel worked in Selkirk and later enjoyed being Postmistress of the Clandeboye Post Office with Bert as her unofficial assistant who always had coffee on for visitors. Bert passed away in 1974 after 35 years of marriage. Ethel is survived by her husband Earle, who she married in 1980 and was blessed with another large family to enjoy. Together they spent 17 winters as snowbirds in Texas and travelled to New Zealand, Hawaii, the Maritimes and many car trips across Western Canada. They moved from Clandeboye to Selkirk in 1995 and enjoyed their homes at Kiwanis on the Red, Woodland Court and Tudor House. Remaining to cherish her memory and love are her children, Patrick and Ursula, Ruth, Ronald, Kathleen, Rebecca and Ken; brother Walter and Helen Ozouf, 16 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, a great-great-grand-daughter and numerous nieces and nephews. We all carry on the inspiration of her life and cherish the support she provided. Ethel carried love and longing in her heart for her parents, brother Harold, sisters Alice and Evelyn, grandchildren Julie and Shannon and nephew Jack. Ethel was a long standing member of the Clandeboye United Church and community volunteer. Her other interests included reading, curling, crafts, socializing, watching sports, especially hockey, curling and baseball and particularly if any children or grandchildren were playing. We feel blessed that our mother and grandmother had such a long and full life. She will be remembered for all the love and support she gave so freely to her family and friends. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, February 24 at the Clandeboye United Church with Rev. Beth McLean officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Make-A-Wish Canada or the Canadian Cancer Society. Gilbart Funeral Home, Selkirk in care of arrangements.
