Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemorySOPHIE BOAG Like Lazarus, Sophie Boag fell asleep in death on September 22, 2010. Like Lazarus, she awaits the time when her Creator will wake up and call her to life in paradise on earth. (John 11:11-43). Sophie was born on August 20, 1930, the oldest of Barbara and John Sciankowy's seven children and grew up on their farm in the Gilbert Plains area. She moved to Winnipeg as a young woman and worked in the then vibrant garment industry. Sophie was baptized in symbol of her dedication to her Creator on August 9, 1968 and served faithfully as one of Jehovah's Witnesses until her death. It was in Winnipeg that she met John Boag, who became her husband. John was deaf and so Sophie became a part of the Deaf Community in Winnipeg. She could frequently be found with her husband on the sidewalk in front of Harry's Foods ready to share her beliefs with anyone passing by. Sophie is survived by two sisters: Victoria Jansen and Sylvia Rodd, brother Bill Sciankowy, and by many others who knew her as a spiritual sister, mother and grandmother. In the eight weeks prior to her falling asleep in death, she was at Grace Hospital. Thank you to the many there that cared for her with dignity and kindness. A Memorial talk will be given by Anthony Markham at the Kingdom Hall, 1060 Wolever Avenue, at 3:00 p.m., Monday, September 27, 2010. All who knew Sophie are warmly invited to attend.
