KARL BORUP It is with great sadness we announce the sudden passing of Karl Borup on October 3, 2010 at the Victoria General Hospital. Karl is lovingly remembered by his wife of 55 years, Elizabeth (Betty) Borup, his daughters Karen Lee and Kathy Lapeire (husband Neal), his grandchildren Jacqueline Lee, Joseph Lapeire (wife Tashia), twins Graham and Sabrina Lee and Michelle Lapeire. Also his great-grandchildren Kyle, Marissa, Ryan, Mikaela, Keatin, and Abigail. Karl is survived by his twin sister Marie, twin sisters Ellen and Elsie, and brother Aage who live in Denmark. Also left to mourn his passing are many other relatives in Denmark, Canada and the United States. Born in Nysum, Denmark on October 22, 1923 Karl came to Canada in 1950 to become a farmhand in Western Manitoba. Within three years he had moved into Winnipeg where he met Betty. Karl became a plumber in 1953 and joined the United Association Local Union 254. He was a member for over 57 years. Karl was an active member of the Odd Fellows and Rebekahs of Manitoba for over 50 years. During this time he filled many offices including District Deputy Grand Master. He was a member of Alpha Lodge #92, St. James Rebekah Lodge #47, Eureka Encampment and Fort Garry Canton #1. Karl was also a member of the Scandinavian Centre, and as a member of the Danish Canadian Club. Until recently, he bowled with the Transcona Seniors bowling league enjoying a sport that started his relationship with Betty so many years ago. Karl was an avid fisherman and enjoyed nothing better than when he had a fishing line in the water either alone but even more so when he was with family members. Karl and Betty loved travelling and spent many years camping in Canada and the United States. Several trips were made to Denmark to spend time with Karl's family including special birthday celebrations for Marie and Karl. Over two years ago, Karl and Betty moved into an assisted living apartment thus making new friends while taking part in various activities their new place has to offer. The family would like to thank the paramedics who tried so hard to save Karl and the doctors and staff at the Victoria General Hospital for their efforts, too. A memorial service celebrating the life of Karl, will be held Friday, October 8, 2010 at 1:30 p.m. at the Parkway, 85 Paget St. (corner of Sterling Lyon Parkway and Paget St.). Parking is available on the gravel parking lot or the street leading into the Parkway. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Odd Fellow Rebekah Memorial Eye Foundation, P.O. Box 132, 4025 Roblin Blvd., Winnipeg, MB, R3R 3V5 or a charity of choice.
