ALEX BORYS It is with sadness that our family announces the passing of our dear brother, uncle and great-uncle, Alex Borys, who passed away peacefully at Health Sciences Centre on Sunday, January 23, 2011 at the age of 83. Alex was born, raised, educated, worked, and retired in Winnipeg. He was a kind and generous person who treasured his family, as well as his religious and Ukrainian roots. Alex had a fun loving spirit. He enjoyed golf, skiing, gardening, taking road trips, and had a passion for studying world history. For decades he was the Treasurer of Holy Ghost Ukrainian Catholic Church. He was a generous humanitarian that supported many charities throughout the world. Alex was a strong source of support and guidance to his numerous nieces and nephews through to their children's children. One grandnephew stated, I cannot recall Uncle Alex ever losing his temper . He did have strong opinions but expressed them with wisdom. Alex was predeceased by his parents John and Mary; brothers Tony and Bert; sisters Alice and Jessie (Kozier). He is survived by his beloved sister Kay and 30 close family members. Prayers will be sung on Friday, January 28 at 7:00 p.m. at Holy Ghost Ukrainian Catholic Church, 40 Ada Street. Divine Liturgy will be celebrated at the Church on Saturday, January 29 at 10:00 a.m., with interment at All Saints Cemetery. Fr. Isidore Dziadyk OSBM will officiate. We wish to thank the homecare staff and the staff of the Health Sciences Centre for the special, attentive care Alex received. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Holy Ghost Ukrainian Catholic Church (40 Ada Street) or to a charity of your choice. KORBAN FUNERAL CHAPEL 956-2193

Condolences & Memories (1 entries)

  • My Uncle Mike Shea and Alex were best friends and golfed together for many years. I remember Alex and my Uncle Mike golfing and I was golfing with them at Windsor Park GC in Winnipeg. Alex was my Uncle Tony’s friend from school. Alex and Mike golfed every Saturday at about 5 pm and on Sunday at 5 pm. They would finish in the dark and then have a beer, burger or sandwich. They golfed at different golf courses. Mike and Kay would joke around once in awhile. Mike took a cab to Alex funeral. Today, Saturday July 6, 2024, Mike is 93 and will turn 94 in September. I showed him Alex's picture and he smiles and blesses Alex picture. - Posted by: Michael Shea (Golfing partner, Best friend) on: Jul 06, 2024
