EVELYN MERLE BRADLEY (nee ARNTZEN) February 1, 1944 April 6, 2011 It is with sadness that we announce Evelyn's passing after a long battle with cancer. With her family at her side, our loving wife and mother was sent to be with the Lord at the age of 67 years on April 6, 2011. She is lovingly missed and greatly cherished by her husband of 47 years, Duane, daughters, Christine (Greg), Julene (Danniel) and son Doug (Larry), grandchildren, Quita, Tate, Zachary and Avery. She is survived by her brothers Merlin and Raymond. She is predeceased by her parents Ludvik and Myrtle and her brother Austin. Evelyn was born in 1944 in Killam, AB. She grew up on the family farm near Sedgewick and went to school in the community. As a young woman, she was an accomplished table tennis player and won the Alberta Doubles Championship in 1960 and 1961. In 1963 Evelyn and Duane were married and lived in Lloydminster, AB and then moved to Kindersley, SK in 1966 and were transferred to Winnipeg, MB in late 1970. They have spent 40 happy years in Winnipeg. Evelyn's faith was an integral part of her life. Evelyn was always very involved in their church, Sherwood Park Lutheran. She was a quilter, was in the ELW and was involved in many various groups at church. Evelyn's greatest accomplishment and her legacy is her family. Christine, Julene and Doug could not have asked for a better mother - always encouraging, supportive, kind and celebrating our lives. She welcomed her in-law children, Dan, Greg and Larry with open arms and heart. She adopted' Neelam and her husband Rohit who have now joined our family too. She loved her grandchildren wholeheartedly and was often seen playing games or baking with or for them. Her chocolate chip cookies were the best! She visited Calgary and Ottawa often to watch performances, or their sports or activities. She was very proud of all of them. Evelyn was a kind, generous, selfless woman. Her heart and home were always open to others. She was an excellent baker, cook, quilter and seamstress. She loved her garden and berry picking. Summer and fall were always busy times with preserving. Many people have received a special quilt that was made by Evelyn. She has given away over 70 baby quilts, and has made many for Canadian Lutheran World Relief. She has many, many friends that she has maintained contact with, including ones from her school years, the places they have lived, and friends she made in their years in Winnipeg. She always had time to share a story, a recipe or a laugh. As well it must be mentioned her love of sports. She loved hockey, curling, baseball and was often listening to a game on the radio or had the TV on to keep track of her teams. She was our rock and will be missed dearly by all of us. Our family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff of the Concordia Hospital Oncology Unit, Dr. Harris, Val and the Palliative Care Program, especially Anne, Dr. Hiebert all the wonderful nurses in the Palliative Unit at St. Boniface. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 9, 2011 at Sherwood Park Lutheran Church, 7 Tudor Crescent. In lieu of flowers please send donations to Sherwood Park Lutheran Memorial Fund, 7 Tudor Crescent, Winnipeg, MB, R2K 2A5 or Cancer Care Manitoba, 193 Sherbrook Street, Winnipeg, MB, R3C 9Z9.
