BEVERLY ANN STEVENS (nee ANNIUK) June 15, 1954 - November 28, 2011 It is with great sorrow we announce the passing of Bev after her courageous battle with cancer. She died peacefully surrounded by her husband and daughters at the Health Sciences Centre on Monday, November 28, 2011 at the age of 57 years. Bev leaves to mourn her beloved husband Rick; loving daughters Tracy (Adam), and Alicia (Michael); precious grandchildren James, Emily, Owen and Evan; parents Edward and Natalie; brother Don; brother-in-law Greg (Mary), and numerous nephews and nieces. Bev was born on June 15, 1954 at the Gimli Hospital, and grew up in Matlock, MB. Bev attended Gimli High School where she met her husband Rick, of 39 years. After starting her family in Gimli, Bev and family moved to Winnipeg where she pursued her love for cooking working at the Eaton's Restaurant and Luther Home. In 1987, Bev moved to Matlock where she and Rick owned and operated the Matlock General Store for seven years. Bev then pursued a career in Real Estate and recently retired after 16 years. Bev had an immense love for her family, especially her precious grandchildren. She enjoyed family time in the pool during the summer months and relaxing on the deck on warm evenings. She cherished family gatherings, especially Christmas, decorating her house and cooking a feast for Christmas dinner. Bev always made her family her top priority. Bev loved to travel with her husband to the Caribbean, Mexico, Texas, Florida and looked forward to her Grand Forks shopping trips. Mazatlan, Mexico was a favourite destination during the winter months. Lazy days in the pool with friends, poker nights and potluck dinners at the vacation condo, were many great memories. Bev was the President of the Matlock Recreation Club for many years and took great pride in organizing Canada Day celebrations, and Breakfasts with Santa. She loved her Friday night Bingo at the club where she met many life-long friends. A special thank you to family and friends for the cards, flowers, baskets, meals, visits, phone calls and prayers. Thank you to Bev's longtime family physician, Dr. Asita Mehta, and to all the doctors, nurses and unit assistants on ward GD-4 at Health Sciences Centre for your compassionate care. Special thanks to the Fresnoza family for all their kindness during Bev's hospital stay. Thank you to Pastor Les Skonnord of the Gimli Lutheran Church for his hospital visit and support during this difficult time. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Bev's memory to CancerCare Manitoba, 675 McDermot Avenue, Room ON1160, Winnipeg, MB R3E 0V9. A memorial service will take place Saturday, December 3, 2011 at 3:00 p.m. in the Gimli Lutheran Church, 50 Third Avenue, Gimli, MB. If tears could build a stairway, and memories a lane, I'd walk right up to Heaven and bring you home again. Gilbart Funeral Home, Gimli in care of arrangements. www.gilbartfuneralhome.com
