William Charney of Matlock, Manitoba was my Uncle. I was named after him. My father, Mike, was his brother. I only met him twice. I most recently spoke to him by phone in 2010 but, alas, he did not remember me, nor his brother Mike, my father. I remember him as a young man, thin of stature, smiling a great deal due to his happiness of seeing his brother, Mike, who had immigrated to Detroit to work in the auto factories. We only stayed a week but I still remember the wonderful vegetable garden, especially the sweet peas. He and my father enjoyed playing the fiddle together in the evenings. Beer, laughter, and good music were plentiful. Although I did not know him well, I admired his smile. He loved to scare me at night telling me ghost stories in the attic of the old homestead as we slept across from one another. Bon Voyage Uncle Bill...see you later. - Posted by: William Michael Charney (Nephew) on: Jan 28, 2012
