Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryHERBERT GORDON MONKMAN Herbert (Bert) Gordon Monkman, aged 88 years, of Riverton MB, passed away on Thursday, December 8, 2011 at the Arborg Hospital. Bert was born at Loon Straits to William and Roseanne Monkman on March 9, 1923. He retired from salmon fishing on the west coast in 1977 at the age of 54. Bert also fished on Lake Winnipeg, in N.W.T. and in Alberta. Bert was predeceased by his 11 brothers and sisters, Violet, Joe, Hector, Thelma, Harry, Willie, Laura, Garf, Doris, Olive, and Lawrence. He is survived by sisters-in-law, Gladys (Garf), Elsie (Harry), and many nieces and nephews. Bert had a great love for the old country music (as many people in Riverton can tell you). He also liked to listen to talk shows on the radio and watch the law court shows on T.V. His mind and memory were very sharp to the end. We would like to thank the doctors, nurses, and staff at the Arborg Hospital for their excellent and outstanding care given to Uncle Bert during his last days. This will never be forgotten. At Bert's request a funeral will be held at Gilbart's Funeral Chapel in Selkirk on Tuesday, December 13 at 10:30 a.m. with Ron Hampton officiating. Burial will take place on Wednesday, December 14 at 1:00 p.m. in the Loon Straits. Gilbart Funeral Home, Selkirk in care of arrangements. www.gilbartfuneralhome.com
