FRANZ HUEGING 1923 - 2011 With deep sadness we announce the passing of our dear husband, father and opa on December 14, 2011. Franz was born January 16, 1923 in Homer, Germany. He was one of twelve children born to Heinrich and Katharina. He was born a triplet, but was the only one that survived. Two other children died in infancy. Franz was predeceased by his Daughter Elisabeth, his parents, brothers Johann, Heinrich, Josef and Alfons, and sister Josefine. Franz leaves to mourn his wife of 57 years Alwine (nee Steffens), sons Henry (Claudia), Hermann (Audrey), Frank and Paul, and daughter Margaret. He will be missed by his grandchildren Curtis, Darren (Allison), Anna, Angela, Ryan, Darcy, Karl, Darrell, Michael and Evan. He is survived by sisters Maria and Sophie, and sister-in-law Christel. Also survived by two brothers-in-law and three sisters-in-law in Germany, plus numerous nephews and nieces. The parents of Franz died when he was very young. He grew up on a mixed farm where he worked for a number of years. Then Franz was a manager on another farm before coming to Canada in 1952. He worked for a short time on farms in Saskatchewan and Warren. In 1953 Franz purchased his first piece of property in the Bonnie Doon area near Woodlands, Manitoba, and started milking cows in 1954. He resided on the family farm for the remainder of his life. Franz helped each one of his children start their own farm and took great pride in their accomplishments. Franz was interested in his grandchildren telling them stories and asking them what they were busy doing. He loved to read, especially the farm newspapers. Prayers will be said on Monday, December 19, 2011 at 7:30 p.m. at the Church of the Annunciation in Woodlands. Funeral mass will be on Tuesday, December 20, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. also at the Church of the Annunciation. Interment will follow in Parish Cemetery. Father Michel Nault will officiate; lunch to follow at Woodlands Community Hall. Pallbearers will be his grandsons Curtis, Darren, Ryan, Darcy, Karl, Darrell, Michael and Evan. If friends so desire donations can be made to Church of the Annunciation or the Heart and Stroke Foundation, 6 Donald St., Winnipeg, MB R3L 0K6.
