PETER BODNAR August 19, 1923 - December 26, 2011 Peacefully with family at his side Peter fell asleep in death at the age of 88 years. Dad is survived and will be sadly missed by his loving and devoted wife of 58 years Verna: daughter Debbie, sons Perry (Lila), Bradley (Angela); grandchildren Brianne (Evan), Matthew (Beth), Ryan (Jenni), Nathan, Justine (Dustin); great- grandchildren Kate, Donavan, Ethan, Thomas. Also left to treasure his memories are, three sisters; Anna, Marie, Gloria (Bob); as well as many nieces and nephews. Dad was predeceased by his parents Phillip and Pearl, three brothers; Frank, John, Michael, and son in-law Tom. Peter was born at the family farm in Skylake MB and loved to relate stories and fond memories of growing up there. Dad married the love of his life, Verna, on June 20, 1953 and made their home in the hamlet of Silver MB, a few miles from the town of Arborg. Peter was an extremely hard worker and operated several successful businesses, including farming, heavy construction consisting of land clearing and road building, and a power sports dealership. Dad enjoyed the simpler things in life. He saw beauty in God's creation and loved the outdoors. He found happiness in feeding the deer, birds, and even cared for orphaned ducklings at his pond till their fall migration. He always looked forward to spring and planting row upon row of potatoes, sunflower and pumpkins in his garden which he would always share with family and friends. Dad was always a very generous man to all in his family. He especially treasured the time spent with his grandchildren riding the trails he made on his farm, having bonfires by the pond, and playing cards. Besides working hard and spending time with family and friends Dad was also an avid Bible reader and would joyfully share what he learned with others. For many years he took great comfort in the Bible's promise of a time when pain, sickness, and death will be no more. Rev. 21:4. At this time of such loss, the family relies on God's word that describes our Creator, Jehovah, at Luke 1:78 as a God of tender compassion . In his final days Dad's main comfort was knowing that God's promise in John 5:28, 29 would one day be fulfilled in which all those in the memorial tombs will be called out and be resurrected to life on a paradise earth. The family sincerely thanks Dr. Gera and the staff at Gimli hospital for their kindness and compassionate care. A special thank you to the Nurses, Health Care Aids and staff at Betel Home Foundation for their warmth, compassion, and sharing a laugh or smile with Dad on many occasions. A memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 7, 2011 at the Silver Community Hall, Silver MB. MACKENZIE FUNERAL CHAPEL ARBORG (204) 467-2525 mackhome@mts.net

  • We are very sorry to hear of Peter's Passing. Peter was always kind and friendly, and generous. We had many a good time snowmobiling in the woods behind his house, and playing cards. We send our condolences to all the family. We will look forward to seeing Peter in the paradise that he prayed for each day.
