NADIA (NUDDY) DNISTRANSKY (nee KOLOMIETZ) August 19, 1924 - January 1, 2012 Quietly, with her family by her side, Mom passed away at the age of 87, at the St. Adolphe Personal Care Home. She will be sadly missed by her children Linda (Doug), Gary (Doris), Daryl (Anita), Brenda (Al), granddaughters Olivia, Jacqueline (Terry), step-grandchildren Brenda, Greg, Andria, Adam, Chynna, Haley, great-grandchildren Hunter, Ty, Tori, Samara and Jaden, sisters Elsie, Lynne (Ron) and their families. Mom was predeceased by her beloved husband Seth, sons Rod and Barry, and her parents Percy and Margaret Kolomietz. Nuddy was born in Selo Euki, USSR and at age four immigrated to Canada with her parents. They settled in the province of Saskatchewan. At age 17, she pursued a teaching career and for the next five years, taught grades one through ten at two different one room country schools. In July 1947, her career took another direction when she married Dad. Together they purchased a small farm outside Arelee, SK and it was here that they started their family. In the fall of 1960, they moved to Selkirk, MB, where their family was completed several years later with the arrival of a beautiful baby girl. Mom stayed at home to raise her family and not until all her children were of school age, did she decide to work outside the home. There were various jobs until she finally found her true calling in women's fashion, at Rifkin Ladies Wear. Mom always had a flair for fashion and accessorizing and before long was assisting Mr. Rifkin as a buyer for the store. She worked there until her retirement. Mom had many interests, a fantastic cook (mastering the fine art of seasoning), an amazing seamstress (most often creating her own patterns), a sketch artist, an avid curler, a bingo player and of course she loved her slot machines (and they loved her back, with frequent pay outs). The Royal Canadian Legion had always been a big part of Mom and Dad's lives. While living in Saskatchewan, she served as President of the Ladies Auxiliary, Sonningdale Branch, and after moving to Selkirk, they joined Legion Branch 42, where they continued their service and support. Mom and Dad were also very involved with the War Amputations of Canada, and in appreciation of all their help and support, Mom had requested that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to The Champs Program, Key Tag Service, #1 Maybrook Drive, Scarborough, ON M1V 5K9 or call 1-800-250-3030. Special thanks to the nurses, health care workers and staff at the St. Adolphe Personal Care Home. Their care and compassion allowed Mom's passing to be in the dignified manner she so richly deserved. Nuddy's greatest enjoyment in life was her family, her home, and always putting others before herself. Her greatest gift was her unconditional love and ability of embracing the best of anyone she knew. Mom was the keeper of our secrets, our pillar of strength and our greatest champion....we will love you forever and always Mommy. Respecting her wishes, cremation has taken place. A Celebration of her Life will be held Monday, January 9 at 2:00 p.m., at Gilbart Funeral Home, 309 Eveline Street, Selkirk, MB. So when your thoughts do turn to me Know that I would not have you cry But live for me and laugh for me Cause when you are happy so am I Gilbart Funeral Home, Selkirk in care of arrangements. www.gilbartfuneralhome.com
