EILEEN MARY WALTERS 1918 - 2012 On Saturday, January 7, 2012 Eileen, beloved wife, mother and grandmother, left this life to continue her walk with God in the life of the Resurrection. She will be lovingly remembered by her husband of 68 years, Aubrey; children: John (Maureen), Brian (Liz), Carolyn Redekop (Fred), Kevin (Ginette), Sharon and granddaughter Kelly (Jen). Born in England, Eileen came to Canada as a War Bride in 1946. Moving from Nova Scotia to their final destination of Winnipeg, Eileen and Aubrey settled in Norwood where they resided for 48 years raising their family. Eileen was very active in the St. Thomas More faith community - being one of the founding members of the Chaplaincy and church's Catholic Women's League (C.W.L.) as well as serving on the church board as Liturgy Chairperson. She also served as President of the C.W.L. on two occasions and was a convener on the St. Boniface Diocesan level. Eileen's strong belief in social justice shone through in her volunteer work. Of particular note, she was a founding member of the original Holy Cross Refugee Association as well as being very involved in establishing the Mother Teresa House in Winnipeg. During the 1990s, Eileen and Aubrey spent most of their time in Victoria, British Columbia, enjoying the lifestyle of the coast. Many new and lasting friendships were developed during these years that were cherished. In recent years, Eileen lived at Dakota House, and became involved in establishing faith based services and a prayer group. Again, Eileen held dear the friendships that were made at Dakota House. Eileen's quiet wisdom and gentle spirit will be greatly missed by family and friends. The family would like to thank the staff at the Victoria Hospital for the care and compassion shown to Eileen during this difficult time. In accordance with Eileen's wishes cremation has taken place and a memorial mass celebrating her life will be held on Thursday, January 12, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. in St. Timothy Parish, 135 John Forsyth Road. If friends so desire, donations may be made in Eileen's memory to Siloam Mission or Jocelyn House. The Coutu family in care of arrangements: E. J. COUTU CO.
