SHEILA VARNDELL It is with great sadness that we announce Sheila's passing, peacefully in her sleep, at Concordia Hospital on Wednesday, January 11. Sheila was predeceased by her beloved daughter JoAnn, husband Ted and brother Speirs. She is survived by her son Jim (Gayle), daughter Maureen (Sean); grandchildren Erin, Nicole, Jessica (Jesse), Matt and Meagan; great-grandchildren Zach, Zoey and Jasmine. Sheila also leaves to mourn her passing, her sister-in-law, Alice as well as her nieces and nephews. Born and raised in Prince Albert, Saskatchewan, Sheila was a prairie girl at heart but also took great pride in her Scottish heritage. As a young woman, Sheila worked for the RCMP in Prince Albert where she met a special young Sergeant, Ted. They were married in 1956. Ted's career as an RCMP pilot took them to Fort Smith, Ottawa and Winnipeg before settling in Selkirk. An avid love of animals led Sheila to raise and train quality German Shepherd pups which went into service for the RCMP. Later in life, her cats were cherished companions. When Sheila's children were in school, she returned to the work force as a receptionist at Lions Manor in Winnipeg. She furthered her career by taking CGA courses and moved into an accounting role, also at Lions Manor. Sheila was a talented seamstress and loved making clothing for her family. With an unwavering faith in God, Sheila was a lifetime member of the Presbyterian Church. Sheila took great pride and pleasure in her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Sheila spent many years battling numerous health issues and we are thankful that she is finally at peace and free of pain. For her love of Scotland, an excerpt from a Scottish poem: death is nothing at all, I have only slipped away and into the next room, I am I and you are you, whatever we were to each other, that we still are. We would like to thank the medical staff at Concordia Hospital especially Eileen and the staff at Donwood Manor for the care they extended to Sheila. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to a charity of one's choice. A private family memorial service will be held. Gilbart Funeral Home, Selkirk in care of arrangements. www.gilbartfuneralhome.com
