WILLEMIJNTJE (WILLIE) ROELS It is with great sadness the family announces the passing of Willemijntje Roels on Monday, January 16, 2012 at the Poseidon Care Centre at the age of 91 years. Willie will be lovingly remembered by her daughter Jeanne (Ray) Smith, son Rick (Jamie) Roels, grandchildren; Len (Cheryl) Smith, Donna (Rob) Hendershot, Meghan (Matt Mymryk) and Lauren Roels; great-grandchildren; Donovan (Sierra Hay), Chana, Justin, Karlei Smith and Melissa Hendershot, as well as many nieces and nephews in Canada and the Netherlands. Mom was born September 1, 1920 in the Netherlands. She is predeceased by her parents, her loving husband Harry of 45 years, as well as all her siblings. Dad and Mom married in January of 1946 and Mom moved to Canada as a War Bride. They settled in Winnipeg to raise their family until 1968 when Dad, Mom, and Rick moved to California. In 1984, they returned to Winnipeg to be with all the family and grandchildren. Mom was one of a kind; she loved everything and everyone in life. She brought joy, happiness, love and caring to all those she met. She was generous to a fault and always saw the good in others. She never worried about herself; her motto in life was to take care of others first before herself. Our family would like to thank all the staff who cared for Mom over the last several years at the Victoria Hospital, Health Sciences Centre, Portsmouth and Poseidon Care Centre. Your care, kindness and support made this part of Mom's journey easier, not only for her but also her family and friends. In keeping with Willie's wishes, cremation has taken place and a memorial service celebrating her life will be held on Saturday, January 21 at 10:30 a.m. in the Coutu Funeral Chapel, 680 Archibald Street. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Winnipeg Humane Society, 45 Hurst Way, Winnipeg, Manitoba, R3T 9Z9 or to any of the pet shelters of your choice. Condolences & Memories (4 entries)

  • Have always looked up to Willie for her thoughtfulness and caring ways! She was one very lovable Lady, who loved everyone and everything around her. I recall her being around my Little dachshunds and how she would love the little ones so much, she just had so much affection in her, more then anyone I have known. We will always have Willie in our thoughts for all the greatness that she was in our life. Bless the Family and her friends. Rest in Peace Willie... - Posted by: Darlene I (nee Galipeault) & Phillip I . (Longtime Friend) on: Jan 20, 2012

  • So sorry to hear of this great lady's passing. Willie was a dear friend of my late daughter Debbie Galipeault. They both lived in the same apartment complex for many years and I was fortunate to become acquainted with Willie through Debbie. I also had the pleasure of meeting her sister and niece when they visited Winnipeg from Holland. Willie was always kind and gentle and so understanding. I loved Willie for her thoughtfulness and will never forget her. Rest in Peace my friend. - Posted by: Jennie Galipeault (Dear Friend) on: Jan 19, 2012

  • My heart goes out to the family. I had many laughs with her. She used to put a smile on my face when she came into Kelsey's and she was always a riot to serve. She will be greatly missed. - Posted by: Amy (Kelsey's manager) on: Jan 19, 2012
