BARBRA (CHAIKA) CHASE With great sadness we announce the passing of Barbra Chase on Sunday the 22nd of January 2012. Barbra (Barb) was a special lady who was a gifted artist, avid reader, backyard gardener, and prolific writer. She was personable, witty bright, and a loyal friend to many. Barb was born in Melville, SK. She was predeceased by her parents, Alex and Helen, her sister Marjorie and her brother Richard. She cherished memories of them to the end of her life. Barb was always quick to share the latest escapades of her beloved companion (dog) Angel. Angel brought true joy and happiness to Barb. In Barb's early years she delighted in the art of Ballet. She loved clothes, art, jewelry and the finer things in life. She always prided herself in looking her best. Barb had many formal accomplishments. Over the years, she obtained a certification in Merchandising Administration from Ryerson University, certificates in Medical and Legal Terminology and Creative Communications from Red River College, and a Bachelor of Arts Degree from the University of Manitoba. Barb had a very diverse employment record including time with Sears, the Winnipeg Clinic, and Canada Border Services Agency where she worked until her retirement. Following her retirement Barb developed a keen interest in cruising - which was evident by the many cruises she took. She would no sooner return from one cruise and start planning the next one. Keep on cruising Barb! A Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, February 4, 2012, 10:00 a.m. at Thomson In the Park Funeral Home, 1291 McGillivray Boulevard, with interment to follow at Waverley Memorial Gardens Cemetery, 1501 Waverley Street. Pallbearers will be: Peter Kenyon, Twyla Kenyon, Jay Bennett, Al Zaik, Ted Wakefield and Ron Kozarchuk. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Winnipeg Humane Society. I MET MY BEST FRIEND BARB IN 2003 WHEN I WAS HELPING ALEX; BARB'S DAD AS HIS HOME CARE WORKER. SINCE THEN WE WERE VERY CLOSE FRIENDS AND EACH OTHER SISTER. SHE ALWAYS TOLD ME THAT "MY DAD WAS CALLING YOU MY YOUNGER DAUGHTER AND HE NEVER REFERED YOU AS A WORKER SO YOU ARE TO ME TOO. SHE USED TO TELL ME THAT GOD HAS TAKEN MY FAMILY BUT GAVE ME YOU IN MY LIFE" AND SHE WOULD COME MANY TIMES ESPECIALLY DURING MY BOYS BAPTISM AND BIRTHDAYS AND STAY WITH US AT LEAST ONCE A WEEK. MY BOYS ENJOYED PLAYING AND DANCING WITH ANTIE BARB AND HAVE LOTS OF PICTURS WITH HER. WHEN I WAS IN WINNIPEG WE USED TO GO EVERY MONTH TO THE CEMETRY WHERE HER PARENTS WERE BARRIED AND THE FOLLOWING WEEKEND WE WOULD OFFER A MASS FOR OUR BELOVED ONES AND GO OUT FOR BREAKFAST OR LUNCH. SHE ALWAYS WANTED US TO BE IN WINNIPEG BUT MY HUSBAND COULD NOT FIND JOB AND WAS STRESSED OUT. WE HAD A LONG PLAN OF GOING BACK BUT NOW NO WINNIPEG WITHOUT OUR OLDER SISTER OF BELOVED MOM. SHE WAS EVERY THING TO ME AND MY FAMILY. COULD SOME ONE PLEASE TELL ME WHAT HAPPENED TO MY BARB.WHERE IS ANGEL NOW? WAS SOME ONE WITH HER WHEN SHE PASSED AWAY IF THAT IS TRUE. I AM STILL IN DENAIL AND I DON'T WANT TO HEAR THIS. I AM HOPING TO SEE HER ONCE AGAIN SAY GOOD BYE UNTILL I MEET HER IN HEAVEN FOR EVER AND EVER WHERE NO ONE CAN SEPARATE US. BARB I WISH I CAME FOR CHRISTMASS TO SEE YOU AND SAY GOOD BYE! I WAS WAITING FOR YOU TO COME WITH ANGEL NATHANIEL, NERI AND NOEL ARE WAITING EGERLY. I TOLD THEM TONIGHT THE WORST NEWS BUT THEY CALLED ME LIER AND SAID"ANTIE BARB AND ANGEL ARE COMING IN SUMMER.NOW IT IS SUMMER WE WILL GO TOGETHER TO JASPER AND HAVE LOTS OFF FUN." "NOEL SAID IF YOU DON'T WANT TO CALL ANTIE BARB AND ANGEL I WILL ASK MY DAD TO CALL AND I WILL ASK THEM WHAT TIME THEY ARE ARRIVING AT THE AIRPORT AND WILL BUY TWO BANCHES OF FLOWES AND GIVE THEM ONE EACH" I COULD NOT STOP CRYING. BARB BY I MISS YOU AND LOVE. LOVE HAIMI - Posted by: HAIMI YOSEF (FRIEND) on: Jun 28, 2012

Barb I can't believe you are gone. I am still waiting to come in summer to enjoy with my 3 boys. you promised them to come and stay with us for more than 2weeks this summer and they are telling me every day especailly today June27/12 "anntie Barb is coming soon let us call her what time she is arriving at the airport and to tell her to come with Angel" Barb I have left you so many messages and I did not get your propt reply for the last 3 months and I thought you were still on travel. remember in 4 years when my last boy will turn 8 we will go to africa together and come back with us for some time. ohhhhhh----no I can't accept this I have no clue where to look for you. In December you told me you were very stressed because most of your friends and family passed away during that time, when I told you to come visit you or bring to edmonto with me you told me that you are going to be okey and will come this year with angel after your travel. - Posted by: Haimi Yosef (friend) on: Jun 27, 2012

Barbra and I have been friends since 1968 when I went to work at Sears. No two people were so very different, but willing to learn so much from each other. Even though we have been separated by distance throughout most of our friendship, it was always like no time had passed when we were lucky enough to see each other. I have been trying with no luck lately to get ahold of Barbra. We had made a deal just after Christmas that we would take turns calling each other once a month. When January came and went without her call, I really didn't think too much about it. And, of course, when my turn came I wasn't on schedule either. Finally early March I called and got a generic answering system. I left a message, thinking she was perhaps on yet another cruise. However, today I called again and got the same generic message. I felt something was wrong and through a search on the internet discovered her death notice. I would so appreciate it if someone could contact me (aka_mabell@yahoo.com) and let me know what happened. God bless you my dearest friend. I will always love and remember you with a smile. - Posted by: Barbara Bell (Friend) on: Apr 08, 2012

May you find peace where you are. I know you are living in a cruise ship as you always wanted to. Your visits will be remembered by all of us. - Posted by: Cecilia Castro (neighbour) on: Feb 07, 2012

For the last 3 years I mowed the lawns and did yard work for Barbra. She was always nice and friendly to me. - Posted by: Joe Stephanson (friend) on: Feb 04, 2012

Barb was a very special lady who loved to visit with friends with her dog Angel. I met Barb through my sister Corey who was very dear to Barb. Barb would come to Christmas and Easter dinners hosted by Corey. She entertained everyone with her cruise ship adventures and enjoyed a good laugh with everyone. We will miss you Barb.
