WILLIAM (DOUG) MCDOWELL March 8, 1925 - February 5, 2012 With heavy hearts we announce the passing of William Douglas McDowell on February 5, 2012 at Deer Lodge Centre. Dad will be truly missed by his loving wife of 62 years, Clara and their three children: Ken (Rosemary), Carol (Dar) and Rod (Kathy). He will also be greatly missed by his five grandchildren: Brett, Kristine, Nikki, Kimberly, Cameron, and his great-granddaughter, Zola. Dad also leaves behind his adopted family: John, Margaret, Jayne, Todd, Scott Percival, and many other nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents Robert, Elizabeth and only brother, Bob. Born in Winnipeg on March 8, 1925, he joined the Canadian Forces at age 17. Dad was very proud of his time served in the Forces and remained a long time member of the Royal Canadian Legion. On February 26, 1949, mom and dad were married and in 1953 moved to St. Vital where they raised their family. Dad spent 37 years working for Imperial Oil, retiring at age 62. Family, home life and friends were the center of Dad's world with the jewels being his grandchildren and great-granddaughter. A celebration of his life will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, February 11 at Thomson In the Park Funeral Home, 1291 McGillivray Blvd. We would especially like to thank Dr. Roy Smith for the many years of care and all the staff at Deer Lodge Centre T6 for their loving care and comfort provided to Dad in the last six months. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Deer Lodge Centre (DLC) Foundation at 2109 Portage Ave., Winnipeg, MB R3J 0L3.
