YVONNE HOUSSIN (STEVENS)
Date of Passing: Feb 18, 2012
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryYVONNE HOUSSIN (nee STEVENS) We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of a genuine lady. Yvonne was a wonderful mother, grandmother and great- grandmother and was kind and caring to all. We will always have terrific memories of Mom. After a courageous year-long struggle against the complications which followed a stroke, Yvonne passed away on February 18, 2012. She was very proud to have recently celebrated her 90th birthday with family and friends, amidst 90 beautiful roses, on January 18, 2012, coincidentally the first anniversary of her stroke. Yvonne will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by her sons Ken and Gary (Jean), her grandchildren Kim (Steve), Marnie (Colin) and Jenna (Willy), along with their mother Judi, and Mike (Jenn) and Doug (Stephanie), along with their mother Irene, and great-grandchildren Owen and Megan. Yvonne was predeceased by her husband Andy in 1993. Yvonne's character was exemplified by her daily devotion and sacrifice to Andy during his several years of health issues. Yvonne resided in St. Boniface for virtually all of her life and greatly enjoyed the company of many friends and neighbours. In her later years she resided at Lindenwoods Terrace where she met many new friends and staff members. Although she had lived in the same St. Boniface house for 62 years, she thoroughly enjoyed the surroundings and new friendships of her new home. Yvonne lived what many would consider to be a simple life but always lived it with great pride, energy and strength. Even after the debilitating impact of her stroke, her indomitable spirit remained vibrant. Her wonderful smile brightened every room she entered and was invariably accompanied by infectious giggle. These will be greatly missed. Mom's life revolved around her sons. She was exceedingly proud of all of their accomplishments and she relished in the times spent with them. She made many sacrifices to ensure their advancement and happiness. Yvonne cherished time spent at the many family gatherings and occasions, both in Winnipeg and Calgary. Her enthusiasm, energy and love will be greatly missed at these events. We will miss her love of dancing at every possible opportunity and we will fondly remember her dancing until one in the morning at her granddaughter Kim's wedding. Mom's final residence was at Deer Lodge Place where she met many new friends and caring staff every day and enjoyed the many activities such as bingo and listening to concerts. We would like to thank the Deer Lodge staff for being so friendly to our Mom. A private celebration of Yvonne's life will be held on Wednesday, February 22, 2012. We both have such admiration for the devotion both Gary and Ken displayed towards their mom, but understand why. Yvonne was a joy to know and to have around. She was an extremely clever lady who had such a bright smile for us all. We have shared many dinners in Calgary with her, Gary, Jean, Chrissie and occasionally Ken. We will miss her presence at our dinner table on Christmas Eve. Our deepest sympathies to all the family.
