Born: Jan 30, 1947
Date of Passing: Feb 23, 2012
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemorySHARRON EDNA MAGNUSSON (nee BIRD) Our mother, Sharron Magnusson, passed away suddenly in her home on Thursday, February 23, 2012. Sharron leaves behind to cherish her memory her son Rob (Shannon); daughter Michelle (Phong); grandchildren Leif, Quinn and Neve; sisters Carol (Alan) Eames, Joanne Bird, Donna (Bob) Beldock; best friend Delores Laye; and granddog Chevy; as well as many other aunts, uncles, sister and brother-in-laws, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. She was predeceased by her mother and father, Helen and Einar; and her brother Jimmie; and her infant sister Sandra. Mom was born in Selkirk, on January 30, 1947, the eldest of her sisters and brother. Sharron was extremely close with her grandma, Little and in her early teens moved in with her. Mom was the best dressed girl in town with her grandma being an expert seamstress and constantly creating new outfits for her. Sharron was a beauty and was crowned Carnival Princess when she was 18. A few years later she married Dale and was warmly welcomed into his huge and close family. Shortly after, Sharron's life was jam-packed with a son and daughter busy in hockey and ringette, a full time job at MTS, and many friends and family always popping in for a visit. Mom had a spirit like no other, which was truly warm, inviting and accepting. She had a genuine smile and heartfelt laugh that you could pick out of any crowd. It was contagious and you couldn't help but be in a good mood around her. Everyone was drawn to Sharron, with her house always full of people including Rob and Michelle's friends, who spent more time at her home than theirs. She was a mom to many. She worked for MTS for 32 years, which included traveling throughout Manitoba showing people how to use a rotary phone for the first time. She then became a telephone operator until she retired in the year 2000. She made many close life-long friends at MTS who valued Sharron's kindness and support. Sharron loved her vacations and spent many summers at Rushing River (including Magnusson Island), her houseboat on Lake of the Woods, winter trips to Mexico, month-long road trips in the motor home and fondly remembered her whirlwind trip to Europe visiting seven countries in three weeks. A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, February 29 at 2:00 p.m. in the Gilbart Funeral Chapel in Selkirk. A viewing will be held prior to the service. Interment will follow in the St. Clement's Cemetery. Flowers are gratefully declined. If so desired, donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation. Being a friend of Rob's meant a lot of time spent at the Magnusson home. I will always remember sleigh rides over the Christmas break and how welcome we always were--and how well fed! It felt like being home, always being considered and looked after and I know a lot of that was due to Sharron's nature. We were all just 'extra' kids. Rob and family, I send you my best. - Posted by: Lori Starodub (Friend to Rob) on: Feb 29, 2012

We became very close friends when we moved across the street from Sharron in 1983, sharing many very happy trips to 'The Mouth' and camping at Rushing River with our families. There wasn't more than two days passed that we didn't get together for a chat. Sharron was very family oriented and we always did everything together with our children. Sharron cared for our boys as her own. Sharron was one of the most happy and fun loving people I have ever met and we will miss her wholeheartedly. God, thank you for letting us know Sharron and be part of her life . - Posted by: Philip & Jan Merkel (friends & neighbors) on: Feb 28, 2012
