Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryPETER EDWARD GEORGE KALLOS 1920 - 2012 It is with great sadness we announce the passing of our husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, Peter Kallos on Saturday, March 3, 2012. Left to cherish his memory are his beloved wife, Verna of 65 years, daughter Karen Fazio (Frank) of Winnipeg, son Peter (Heather) of Victoria, BC, grandchildren Paul Fazio (Melanie) of Winnipeg, Graham Kallos (Emily) of Toronto, ON, Tegan Kallos of Victoria, BC, Krista Fazio (Mike) of Winnipeg, Cameron Kallos (Savannah) of Richmond, ON and great-grandchildren Lexie and Parker Fazio. Peter was born in Yorkton, SK on May 7, 1920 and spent his formative years in Moose Jaw. He served in the Canadian army medical core overseas during the Second World War and returned to marry the love of his life Verna in 1946. He completed his university education at United College and the University of Manitoba after the war and began teaching in Winnipeg following graduation in 1949. Peter taught school at Riverview School, Churchill High School and became Vice-Principal at Aberdeen. He went on to be Vice-Principal at Kelvin High School where he worked until his retirement in 1982. Following retirement, Peter and Verna travelled to England, Hawaii, Florida and Australia but most of all they looked forward to their annual golf trips to Arizona and fall trips to Victoria to visit their son and his family. Some of the best memories were of the times spent with family and of the friendships made while golfing at Southwood Golf and Country Club and curling at the Wildwood Club. Peter enjoyed watching his grandchildren at sporting events and concerts and was truly proud of the adults they had become. The family wishes to thank the doctors and staff of Victoria General Hospital, in particular the staff of the 5th floor. In respect of Peter's wishes, there will be no funeral service. A private family celebration will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or a charity of choice. I had the special pleasure of being one of Peter Kallos's students in the 1950's. He was my teacher for three years--I was the grade 9 class valedictorian. My Father was seriously ill during this period, and Mr. Kallos went out of his way to give generously of his time and encouragement, and was always, always kind and supportive. I never had a better teacher. He holds a special place in my heart and I am gratified to learn that he enjoyed a good life, a happy marriage and family. Dear Verna, We were saddened to hear that Peter had passed away. We had just had newsy Emails from him in recent months. We knew that you had moved from your home on Holly Avenue and were really enjoying your new accommodations. We will always treasure the good times we had with the two of you.
