BARRY KOWAL Peacefully with family at his side, Barry passed away on March 14, 2012. Barry is survived by his wife Lynne, sons Barry and Robin, grandchildren Taylor and Makenna, mother Jean, brother Dennis (Ethel), and sisters Evelyn and Darlene along with many aunts and uncles, nieces, nephews, in-laws Leslie and Bob, Charlotte, Phyllis, Stuart and Linda and families, colleagues and friends. Barry was predeceased by his father Mike, his son Michael, his niece Carissa, in-laws Robert and Muriel Vincent, and brother-in-law Richard Vincent. Barry was born in Grandview, MB and grew up on the family farm. He came to Winnipeg in 1966 where he met Lynne and they were married in 1968. He began work for Transport Canada at the age of 21 and was stationed throughout Manitoba before settling in Dauphin where he worked and raised his family. In 1994 the family moved to Selkirk and continued working with NAVCANADA at the Winnipeg flight service station until his retirement in 2002. Early summer mornings at the cottage in Ponemah were special times for Barry; he loved his morning paper and coffee out on the deck. The hours he would spend with his grandchildren Tay and Mak were extra special and he was their go to guy for anything they needed. Barry was truly a gentle soul, generous with his time and affections. He will be missed by all who knew him. A service for Barry will be held at Gilbart Funeral Home, 309 Eveline Street, Selkirk, MB on Tuesday, March 20, 2012 at 1:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, family and friends if desired can make a donation to the charity of their choice. He was truly a beautiful man. Rest in peace with our beloved Michael. Gilbart Funeral Home, Selkirk in care of arrangements. www.gilbartfuneralhome.com

Lynne, my deepest sympathy to you and your family on the loss of a wonderful husband, father and grandfather. I was in the United States for the past week and unable to attend the service. Barry was a kind, thoughtful and warm person who always took the time to enquire as to how and what others were doing. I will forever cherish his wonderful sense of humour which was always evident at the many "Vincent" gatherings that I attended - in particular around the campfire at West Hawk Lake and at the annual pumpkin carvings at Richard and Charlotte's home. My thoughts and prayers are with you at this difficult time. Love Bob - Posted by: Robert Stalker (friend) on: Mar 24, 2012

I posted a previous message, so this maybe a double, but Barry would get a laugh out it. Big memory was you arriving in Brochet with the big dog. Barry pulling out a bottle of rye, saying he was told if he wanted to get along with the OIC, this was what was needed. We polished it off and were friends ever since. One of the best guys I ever worked with, and Lynne you were a trooper moving into the barracks. Note, I didn't let you see your living accomodations until Storm'n Norman took off with the Norseman! Rest in peace buddy, miss you. - Posted by: Tom Gibson (Good friend) on: Mar 18, 2012

Dear Lynne and family, We are so saddened to hear of Barry's passing. We have such great memories of our times together. We especially remember Barry's "cinquante" beer, Mark and Barry rolling around in the snow after a sauna, Willie Nelson music! So many great memories with Barry on Brown Avenue and staff picnics. What can we say. We are sorry we can't be there on Tuesday but we will be there in spirit. With our deepest sympathy, love and friendship, Mark and Linda McMunn and family. - Posted by: Mark and Linda McMunn, Headingley (Friends ) on: Mar 17, 2012

Lynne, our deepest sympathy to you and your family on the loss of your beloved Barry. We are presently in San Antonio, Texas and will be unable to attend the service. Marilyn had contacted us via e-mail, to notify us of Barry's passing. We have the fondest memories of Barry and yourself, Lynne.....from those wonderful Pumpkin Carving Parties at the Vincent's home, with your fantastic desserts always being a highlight !!! We will always remember Barry with a twinkle in his eye, contributing to and enjoying the laughter with the various antics unfolding around all of us. He was indeed a treasure and will remain in the hearts of all of us. - Posted by: Ron & Marion Williams () on: Mar 17, 2012

Without a doubt Barry is one of the finest men I've ever known. It was a privilege to know him and a pleasure to work with him. I've heard it said That people come into our lives for a reason Bringing something we must learn And we are led To those who help us most to grow If we let them And we help them in return - Posted by: Lloyd Jensen (Co-worker) on: Mar 17, 2012

Barry and I shared a home town although we did not know each other well during our adolescent years. He came to The Pas Airport as a brand new Radio Operator in 1967. I was given the task of training Barry for duty. The training went well. We agreed at several points that additional classes at the Gateway and Cambrian Hotels were necessary. Lynne came to The Pas as a new bride and as Betsy and I were also newly married we had many pleasant social occasions. Barry and I continued to work together until his departure for Brochet. We continued to touch base occasionally over the years and it was as if we had just seen he and Lynne yesterday. He was a great man on the job and a greater friend. - Posted by: Bev and Betsy May (Friends) on: Mar 17, 2012

Barry laughing will be how I will always remember him. He was kind and caring. He taught me as a young FSS to error on the side of caution and it is a lesson I practise everyday in my work. All our lives are better for having known Barry. Hugs to Lynne and family. Love Shelley - Posted by: Shelley Jensen (friend and co-worker) on: Mar 17, 2012
