Condolences & Memories (2 entries)

  • Chrissy I met you and your mom when you fist came to see our new home. As you toured our special home Husi Gim we said this home will be a relaxing place, where people with disabilities will learn to live, to work but most importantly to enjoy life together. I was there when you moved into it..I remember how you filled the room with the warmest smile ever. Chrissy you were a very special person, and I don’t mean that just in the narrow, more or less euphemistic way that persons with developmental disabilities are often referred to as “special.” I mean it in the ordinary, everyday sense. I mean that you were special. You occupied a very special place in my family as well as Husi Gim family. To us all Chrissy could be goofy, funny, hilarious, happy-go-lucky and so much more. She may have had diminished mental capacity, but she a heart of gold, she was very caring of all who lived and worked with her. She had a zest for life and a personality to make up for it all. Chrissy's life has touched many people. Chrissy had special names for every person and we will always remember these names too. I was Etta's buddy. Meaning Linda's buddy. My husband and I had a dairy farm, which Chrissy visited many times over the years. We also were foster parents to two men who went to the same workshop Chrissy did and one was John (Chrissy called him boy high up..John was over 6 feet tall. The other was Kris..his name was boy baby calf...because Kris took care of all the new born calves.) We have 4 children who also had special name tags by Chrissy and they loved having her visit as well. Chrissy had a deep love for music (especially country) and so do I. I used to play the accordion for the gang on many of our camping trips and Chrissy could always be found right by my side...singing along with me. As I write I still can hear her singing and strumming on her pretend guitar..easy come easy go...just as Chrissy lived her life she lived it like the song she loved..Easy come, Easy go. I am not sure how easily Chrissy came into this world but I do know she was a fighter at the time of her passing. She spoke of her mother, and in her own way made us see and understand that she was looking forward to seeing her again but she was in no rush. On Thursday we will not be gathered together to mourn a life that has passed. We will be gathered to celebrate that life by a very fine woman, who despite having some challenge’s, lived each and every day to its fullest. God has called her home. He must have needed one more angel..and an angel she will be. Many people use the term for Chrissy's condition in such bad ways. I am fully convinced that they are just not aware of what a mentally challenged person can do in their lives like what Chrissy did to my family and me. If you knew Chrissy, or someone like her, you too would understand each and every day in life is a gift to be used and enjoyed. I know that firsthand.
