RAYMOND JAMES HOBIN On March 27, 2012, surrounded by his wife, children and grandchildren, Raymond James Hobin was welcomed into the arms of Jesus. He will be lovingly remembered by his wife of almost 56 years, Margaret; his children, Lori (Matthew), Bob (Monique), Karin (Tim), Ken and their families. He will be greatly missed by his sister Iris, Margaret's siblings, many nieces and nephews, and his good friend Ed. Ray was born May 18, 1934 in Massey, Ontario. He served in the Royal Canadian Air Force, owned a hardware store and a rental store in Gimli and later enjoyed a career in sales until his retirement from Home Depot at age 73. Dad was a dreamer, an inventor, an entrepreneur and his strong hands could build and repair anything. He remained active and up for adventure, enjoying rollerblading, skating, family camping, glacier climbing and a good water fight with his grandchildren. Dad was honest, thoughtful, generous, kind and humble. He has left us with a legacy of love and a treasure trove of amazing memories. Dad loved a good joke and we will miss his hearty laugh. He had a strong and simple faith in the Lord and this carried him through his last days. Dad started each day with a song and always looked for the best in people. His grandchildren and great-grandchild cherished every moment spent with their Papa. Thank you to the compassionate angels from Palliative Care who helped us care for Dad at home, where he so wanted to be. A service to celebrate our much loved and loving husband, father, papa and great-papa will be held at Eastview Community Church, 3500 De Vries Avenue on Sunday, April 1, 2012. A time of viewing will take place at 1:30 p.m. before the 2:00 p.m. funeral service. Refreshments to follow. Interment will occur in Gimli, with the procession departing the church at 4:30 p.m. Gilbart Funeral Home, Selkirk in care of arrangements.

  • Even though I wasn't blood related and only a step-grandaughter I never felt out of place. He welcomed me with open arms (as everyone else did too) he always had a tune that he would mumble and it was very catchy. I remember papa would always give out key chains for all his grandkids, we didn;t think about it much then but now I see how even the little things like his key chains meant the world because it was from him. I can never have enough of those. Now up in heaven he is looking down on all of us> we will always remember him for the loving, funny, great man that he was. you will be missed. <3 - Posted by: *Caylene (granddaughter) on: Mar 30, 2012
