Wilf was the eldest of five children born to Honoré and Henrietta Bernardin on October 25, 1914 in Elie, Manitoba. On September 25, 1946, he married Henriette Ida Lachance, and they began farming potatoes and vegetables in St. Eustache. Wilf served his community with integrity, as school trustee for the White Horse Plains School Division, and also as Councillor for the RM of Cartier. For Wilf, his proudest accomplishment was his family, and he took every opportunity to tell anyone and everyone that he was the father of 11 beautiful children who gave him many joyous moments with his grand and great-grandchildren. Wilf is survived by his wife of 65 years, Henriette and their 11 children: Norman, Lorne (Gisèle - deceased), Alfred (Gisele), Rosemarie (Robert) Schmidt, Walter, Gisèle (David) Klaassen, Lucille (Clarence) Ross, Harry (Angela), Simone (Gerry) Syrenne, Marilyn (Alan) Hadley, Maurice (Margaret); his 30 grandchildren along with their spouses; 35 great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. He is also survived by one brother, Adelard (Eveline) of British Columbia and sister-in-law Jeannette (Napoleon - deceased); brothers-in-law: Roland (Alfreda - deceased) Beaudin, Raymond (Evelyn) Lachance, and sisters-in-law: Laurette (Adrien - deceased) Martin, Clémence (Gilbert - deceased) Précourt, Estelle (Harold Houde - deceased / Olivier - deceased) Beaudette, Rollande (Léo) Leclerc, Marielle (Gilbert) Levesque, Beatrice (Jack - deceased) Stark and Anna (Benoit - deceased) Lachance. Besides his parents and the many named above, he was also predeceased by Henriette's parents, Henri and Albina Lachance; his brother Léo and wife Yvette, his brother Napoléon, his sister Ethel and husband Moise Beaudin, and daughter-in-law Gisèle. Besides his family, there is little Wilf loved more than hunting and fishing and throughout his life, he made many friends who will also miss him. Goodbye my family, my life has passed, I loved you all to the very last. Weep not for me but courage take; Always continue to love each other for my sake. The first time I met Wilf was when my mother was hoeing beets for him in his fields. He asked me if I was interested in pulling weeds for him at .10 cents per hour. I was eight years old. That was good money for me so I said yes. He forgave me for my distractions and paid me anyway. Later on in life I drove his potato trucks and he forgave me once again. He put up with my rebellious ways and showed me guidance through my best friend Walter. When Walter would tell me that I shouldn't do certain things I knew it was coming from Wilf and because Wilf was putting up with me I knew he liked me. You see not many people liked me in those days but I knew Wilf did. The reason I say that is because I visited him not long before he left St. Eustache and I apologized for any hardship that I may have caused him and Henriette. He said "You were the least of our problems" and knowing Wilf as I did I knew what he was saying. He would be proud of me today. His work ethics and ethics in life in general helped me more that anyone will ever know. The more I think about it the more I am convinced that he helped more people than we know. He was there when I needed someone as a child because I had no one. We had a glass of rum when I visited even though Henriette was against it and we had some of my smoked salmon which he said he loved along with some very sorely missed conversation. To me Wilf was a part of my family because he always treated me as a part of his. I have a lot of wonderful memories that I will cherish forever. To the Bernardin Family. Your Dad was a very special man and had a special place in our hearts. Growing up with all of you, I have the most special memories of walking into the porch on the farm and if your Dad was sitting in his usual spot at the end of the table, you could always expect a greeting like "well hello, sweatheart" or "there's another one of my girls", like he didn't have enough as it was. He always had room in his heart for one more. Another memory was coming over on the weekend and you knew that he would be glued to the TV watching "Hockey Night in Canada", especially if the Montreal Canadiens were playing. Or the many hours of card games at the kitchen table. I could go on forever, but just know that our thoughts and prayers are with you all and that we share in your grief at this time of great loss.
