Saddened to hear of Shirley's passing. We have many great memories of her. First meet Shirley through our love of dachshunds. Many years later I was pleased to see her again at the Selkirk Library Friday get-togethers! She was a wonderful person, so caring. Shirley is greatly missed. - Posted by: Lesley Hoban & Anthony Funk (Dog Shows) on: Apr 06, 2012

We'll always remember the hours and days we've spent with you. We shared a lot of laughs and tears together. The dog world has lost a wonderful person. - Posted by: Ralph & Nia Massey (longtime friend) on: Apr 03, 2012

I honestly can't remember when I first met Shirley but it was around the same time I was showing Collies for someone else and then later showed them for Shirley. I was also responsible for getting her a contact in the Miniature Wirehaired Dachshund world. Not sure she ever forgave me for that. I just wish she would have been around to see her name being mentioned in the column I just finished for Canine Review. When we think of people, we should contact them, otherwise they have no idea they are being thought of. - Posted by: Geri Thompson (dog friend) on: Apr 02, 2012

I've known my dear cousin since I was a little girl about 75 years ago and my memories, love and adoration of her have only grown stronger. She was my cousin, friend, mentor, and the sister I never had. I can't begin to even think how much I will miss her in the days ahead. God bless her family who took such tender care of her in her last years. Bon voyage Shirley until we meet again.....Joan and all the pets we've had over the years. By the way - say hello to Pavorotti for me. - Posted by: joan gerus (cousin) on: Apr 02, 2012

Attended one of Shirley's Weiner Palooza's as a judge and what a wonderful day. Shirley had a great sense of humour and was a wonderful hostess to all the dachshund owners. And what great costumes those dogs had. Also visited Shirley to see her dachshund babies! Condolences to the family. Shirley was a wonderful lady. - Posted by: Carol Robson ("dog friend") on: Apr 02, 2012

We met Shirley through a friend in the mid `80s. We are Wheaten owners, but Shirley jokingly told us she wouldn`t hold it against us. When we rescued our second Wheaten, Shirley was a wealth of help and information in dealing with the Wheatens unique problems. Shirley also helped to bring our son out of his shy self and encouraged him to join Junior Handling. She often brought him small gifts to enjoy with our dogs. Our son and dogs had hours of fun playing with the knotted balls and toys that she would hand out. The Wiener Palooza was always a hoot and looked forward to. We also worked with Shirley at the St. Andrews Kennel Club. We are going to miss her. - Posted by: The Litke Family--Gail, Raymond and Travis (Friends) on: Apr 01, 2012

I have know Shirley for over 20 years. Of course this started in the dog world. Collies were our connection. I am saddened to her of her passing but remember with great fondness the times we spent together at shows or sitting around her kitchen table in Selkirk drinking coffee and talking dogs. We lost touch over the past 10 years but recently I purchased a dacshund puppy for my daughter and mainly because it had Shirley's kennel name on it's great-grandmother!. Miss you Shirley! She was such great little spirit and could always put a smile back on your face on a tough day. I have wondered how she was doing for a long time. - Posted by: Sue Rempel (Dog Friend from way back) on: Mar 31, 2012
