DON CHAPMAN Donald James Chapman (Chappie) passed away on Saturday, March 24, 2012 at the age of 54, after a brief illness. He leaves behind his children Luc, Alyssa, and Blake, his wife Kate, his sisters Sherrill (Phil), and Judy (Peter), and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his mother Isabelle, and father George. Don was born and grew up in Brandon, and visited there regularly all his life. As a child he played hockey and baseball, and enjoyed family summer vacations at Clear Lake, a tradition he continued once he had children of his own. Don moved to Winnipeg to attend the University of Manitoba. He loved living in residence and made some lifelong friends during that time. It was at the University of Manitoba that Don took up racquetball, which became a big part of his life, and was how he met Kate. He obtained his Commerce degree and his CA designation and had a long career with the Canadian Grain Commission. Most recently he was employed at Sobering Automotive, and had a great few years there. Don loved hockey, and was very involved with coaching over the years, as well as volunteering on the board at Varsity View Community Centre for many years. He continued to play in a variety of men's leagues, most recently many years in the Charleswood Men's League. He made many friendships through his involvement with hockey and the community, and will be greatly missed by all his buddies, especially at Sorrento's. Don loved his children. He was so proud to see them grow into happy, successful young adults, and had many great memories of family vacations at Clear Lake, and of coaching and cheering them on in their various sporting endeavours. If friends wish, donations in Don's name can be made to the Charleswood Men's Hockey Association Education Fund, c/o The Winnipeg Foundation, or to a charity of your choice. A memorial service will be held at a later date.

Chappy you were friend like no other! The experiences we shared that one night together with my son' Matt and Burton Cummings and you and I was priceless and Matt and I will never forget them. You were the king of entertainment in the dressing room. You took care of all my families income tax for many many years and we all really appreciated that. You were the best of the best. Your life was too short my friend but I know you are with the father and resting in peace. Your life will be toasted by many of the people who knew you and appreciated you. Till we meet again one day Donny. Make sure the beers are cold! - Posted by: Randy Horel ( Long time friend) on: Apr 02, 2012

Chappy; Gone too soon my friend. Don was a book you couldn't judge by the cover; always a smile on and off the ice, always supportive, generous and positive. A great teammate and an even better opponent. Hope you're chipping in the 4 footers upstairs my friend. - Posted by: Napoleon Sansregret (Hockey friend) on: Apr 02, 2012

It was always a pleasure to ref when Chappie playing. Even when he wasn't on the ice, he would be looking for an assist his team scored. Chappie always had a smile and never had a harsh word to say. He will be missed. - Posted by: Bob (Hockey friend) on: Mar 31, 2012
