GLADYS KUPCHIK Gladys Kupchik passed peacefully in her sleep at her residence on March 31, 2012 in Selkirk, Manitoba. She was predeceased by her husband Mike, and brother Mervyn Joynt. She is survived by her children Randy Kupchik (Brenda), Debbie Bodine (Chuck) and Candyce Pollock (Kerry). Also survived and loved by grandchildren Bridget Bodine; Krysten and Michael Kupchik; and Cara-Lee, Kort, and Kaven Pollock. Gladys is survived by her sisters-in-law Lena Meger, Rose Ludwick, Mary Lazaruk and Anne Rapko as well as many nieces and nephews who she cared for very much. Gladys was born and raised in Bradwardine and raised in the Kenton area of Manitoba. Losing her father at a young age, Gladys grew up with her mother Donalda Joynt and brother Mervyn. In her youth Gladys excelled in sports, especially softball. In later years she enjoyed golfing and bowling. Gladys was a true hockey fan; whether watching her grandkids games, NHL games (She took in her last game March 20, 2012 Flames vs. Colorado Avalanche and she was all smiles enjoying the game with Kaven and Bridget) or the Selkirk Steelers; anything hockey related appealed to her. She enjoyed working for the Town of Selkirk and was known as Mrs. K . She was the manager of concessions and became a mentor to many teenagers, granting the opportunity for that first job . Gladys enjoyed travelling with her family and friends for many years. Travelling to Arizona, Caribbean, Colorado, Europe, Florida and Texas; Gladys loved the journey and who she met along the way! Gladys was devoted; as a wife who visited Mike regularly at Deer Lodge where he was a patient for many years; as a mother who was firm and loving and as a grandmother who participated in as many activities with her grandchildren as possible. Mom will be dearly missed by her family and friends. Gladys was fortunate to reside in her home until the end with help from Candyce, long time friend Anne McCrae, and Home Health Care. In accordance with mom's wishes cremation has taken place and a celebration of life in her memory will be held on Thursday, April 5, 2012 in the Knox Presbyterian Church, 341 Eveline Street, Selkirk, Manitoba at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Anthon Bouw officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Seniors Adult Day Program (which was close to her heart) at Box 5000, Selkirk, Manitoba R1A 2M2.
