MARIE TURCOTTE (nee MOWAT) It is with broken hearts that we announce the passing of Marie Turcotte, beloved wife, mother, grandmother and aunt, on April 10, 2012. She is survived by her daughter Heather and son-in-law Art Gordon and her most precious granddaughter Hannah, sister Bernice (Martin) Stebner, brothers Edgar (Terry), Dennis (Ursula), Ron (Judy), Clifford (Maureen), Randy (Grace) Danny (Karen), sister-in-law Olive Pakoo and numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband Neil in 2011, her parents Laura (Monkman) and Peter Mowat, brother Garry and niece Nicole. Mom was born on January 13, 1937 in Selkirk, Manitoba. She grew up at Loon Straits, Manitoba and was married there on December 31, 1955. Mom and Dad lived briefly at Ilford Manitoba before moving to Victoria Beach. It was here that they had their only child, Heather. Although they moved to Winnipeg, Mom's heart was always at the beach. She was thrilled when they were able to once again call this their home. Mom loved nature, bird watching and rescue, gardening, quilting and baking. Her greatest enjoyment, though, was her granddaughter, Hannah. Theirs was truly a special love. "Granny will be watching over you, always." Although Mom faced many hurdles in her life, she always faced them with grace, dignity, determination and faith. It is her faith that is comforting us through this most difficult time. Mom you are an inspiration to us. We would like to express our heartfelt gratitude to the staff of the Selkirk Hospital Dialysis Unit, Dr. R. Lindenschmidt, the staff at Red River Place, as well as her drivers, Phil, Moe and Gary. We are truly blessed to have had such caring, compassionate people take care of Mom. A memorial service will take place at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, April 16, 2012 at Wayside Gospel Chapel, 39082 Fey Road, Grand Marais with Pastor Alex Cross officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Marie's memory to the Selkirk Dialysis Unit, Selkirk General Hospital, P.O. Box 500, Selkirk, MB R1A 2M2. Gilbart Funeral Home, Selkirk in care of arrangements. www.gilbartfuneralhome.com

Condolences & Memories (5 entries)

  • Although I grew up and live far away, it is easy to recall the good feelings whenever we came to visit Aunt Marie and Uncle Neil and cousin Heather. The great hospitality and tremendous amounts of laughter will always be with us as will the great charm and dignity of Aunt Marie. May God Bless you Heather and help you in your time of loss. With love from Brian and Dorothy and Sean, Mark and Brianna. - Posted by: Brian St. Germain (Nephew) on: Apr 21, 2012

  • My condolences to Heather and My Cousins Bernice, Edgar, Dennis, Cliff, Randy, Danny and all their families. You all know I was named after Marie and I loved her very much. One day I asked Auntie Elsie how she got her name "Meem". Auntie said it was years ago and Marie was just a little girl and came to visit with a beautiful silk dress on that Auntie Laura had made her. I guess everyone was busy with their umpteen kids and nobody was paying any attention to her -- she started brushing her dress and said "Old silk me -- em." So forever after everyone called her Meem. I have been away from home for many years but the hardest time of all is when I can't be there to be with the family when something like this happens. Love to you all, Cousin Doll (Marie) in Yellowknife - Posted by: Marie Monkman Coe (Cousin) on: Apr 19, 2012

  • I always missed going to Grandpa and Grandma Turcotte's for a "good feed of fish!" My wish came true a few years ago as we went to visit Uncle Neil and Auntie Marie. My plate was filled with pickerel and just like Grandma, Auntie Marie stayed by the stove the whole meal cooking the fish and serving us the best Bannock I ever had. I always loved the peace one felt being around Auntie Marie...and still do. Our Deepest Condolences to Heather and family. • My prayers and comfort are with you, Heather and family... I was thinking about when we were young children, Marie and I would lay on our backs on the grass, on a sunny day...Clouds in the sky, we had so much fun jumping from cloud to cloud in our imagination, picking out images of animals, birds and the like in them. One time, we were doing this and suddenly got into a major discussion about God, if before God there was nothing, then where did God come from? In children's minds that was a big discussion. Marie was a sweet person, always with a smile on her face, she is now rejoicing in heaven with loved ones gone before. Keep your memories of her alive in your heart, Heather Love Muriel - Posted by: Bruce and Muriel Phillips (Muriel and Marie (cousins)) on: Apr 16, 2012

  • I will always remember you, Aunty Marie, for your courage to face adversities with strength, hope, Faith. You never complained, just faced life as it came. With Love, your niece, LaVerne - Posted by: LaVerne & Kevin, Keith & Cindy & family (niece, great-nephews, great-great-nephews,) on: Apr 12, 2012
