LAWRENCE JOHNSTON It is with sadness and happy memories that we announce the passing of Lyall Lawrence Johnston on April 12, his father's birthday. Left to hold his memory dear is his wife of 54 years Jean (Livingston), brother-in-law Stan Livingston, sisters-in-law Elma and Marypat Johnston, nephew Cal Johnston and dear nieces Kelly, Sally, Nancy and Leanne. He was predeceased by his parents Margaret and Joseph Johnston, his brothers Claire and Burton, brother-in-law Alvin and sister-in-law Marj. Lyall was born February 3, 1927 in Roland, Manitoba. The family moved to Isabella in 1937. It was here that he grew up on the family farm. In 1956 he moved to Wawa, Ontario to work as a welder for Algoma Ore. He was an avid curler, a member of the Volunteer Fire Department and in 1962 was on the Mine Rescue team which won the Provincial Championship. In 1970, he relocated to Thompson to work for Inco Maintenance. He curled and spent many enjoyable hours at the cottage at Paint Lake. Holidays were spent travelling around Canada and the United States. In 1990, he retired and in 1992 moved to Brandon. Winters were spent in Texas, Australia and Victoria where he began to enjoy golf. Over the years Lyall and Jean kept in touch with their many friends and old co-workers during their travels. Favourite greetings of Lyall's were: How you doing gal? or Hi there lad or lassie! Lyall will be remembered by friends and neighbours as a helpful, fun loving, generous man. "It's not the things you've said or done but it's how you've made people feel." A private committal service will take place at the Brandon Cemetery. Family and friends are invited to share their memories at Memories Chapel, 330 - 18th Street North, Brandon, Manitoba on Monday, April 16, 2012 between the hours of 2:00 p.m. and 3:30 p.m. with a time of sharing at 2:30 p.m. The family would like to thank the staff at the Salvation Army's Dinsdale Personal Care Home for their wonderful care.
