PETER TROCHIM Our family is sad to announce the passing of our husband, father, and gigi, at the Concordia Hospital on Thursday, April 12, 2012. Peter lasted as long as he could until his birthday, the very same day, and left this world as peacefully as he came into it. He was 86. Peter will be lovingly remembered by his wife of nearly 60 years, Stella; his son, Dennis; his daughter and son-in-law Debra and Lance Winslow, and his four wonderful grandsons, Jack, Andy, Tommy, and Sean. He will also be missed by his sister, Nell Apshkrum, and brothers Leonard (Reva) and Daniel (Elaine); and many nieces, nephews, brothers and sisters-in-law, and their families. Peter was predeceased by his two parents Nicholas and Lena, sisters, Olga Manitowich and Julia Lefteruk, and brothers, Michael, William and Joseph. Peter was born and grew up on the family farm outside Libau, MB and as a young boy enjoyed hunting and trapping and later as a young man developed a life time interest in sports, first and foremost baseball. He was a very good pitcher and a highlight was his Selkirk Fishermen team championship with Rudy, Allan, Frank, Bud, Eddie, and the rest of the guys. He played into his late 50s, often with guys half his age, and still struck them out. Peter worked several jobs over his lifetime, primarily at CN Transcona Shops for nearly 25 years as a crane operator. Other jobs included: the Selkirk Rolling Mill, Selkirk steam plant, and for many years part-time and on weekends with Wills Taxi in Selkirk. Peter and Stella married in 1952 and lived in Selkirk, until moving with the family to Transcona. After retirement they moved back to Selkirk, and then back to Transcona to be near their grandchildren, who were a great joy to them. Peter and Stella could often be seen driving back between Selkirk and Transcona, visiting many friends and relatives in their retirement years. The family would like to thank all the staff at Concordia Hospital for their tender and compassionate care. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Concordia Foundation at 1095 Concordia Ave., Winnipeg, MB R2K 3S8. A memorial service will be held at Gilbart Funeral Chapel on Tuesday, April 17 at 7:00 p.m. with a luncheon at Selkirk Legion Hall to follow. Dad and Gigi, you will be lovingly remembered for your strength and dedication, and you deserve your peace on your special day. Gilbart Funeral Home, Selkirk in care of arrangements. www.gilbartfuneralhome.com
