EDWARD HOWARD DERMODY Edward Howard Dermody, beloved husband of Eileen, passed away on Tuesday, April 17, 2012 at St. Boniface Hospital. Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 58 years, Eileen; children Chris (Sherri Jessiman), Brent (Fatima Tavares), Kim (Bonnie Kallert), Karen (Lorne) Cruise; and grandchildren Sabrina, Erin, Sasha, Jordan, Braden, Graham and William. He is predeceased by his parents William and Margaret, and siblings Edna, Gerry, Fern, Eleanor and Bill. Ed was born in Winnipeg on October 1, 1933. After high school, he began working for Manitoba Telephone System. Ed and Eileen moved to Brandon in 1962. It was here they raised their family and Ed became involved with various boards and organizations including the Brandon School Board, Catholic School Board and United Way. Ed loved technology and challenging work. He enjoyed a variety of positions, from working on the microwave tower network to managing different business departments, during his career at MTS until his retirement in 1992. Retirement, to Ed, meant embarking on new endeavors as he was an entrepreneur at heart. Ed had a lifelong desire to learn and continued his education at University after moving from Brandon back to Winnipeg in 1997. All who met Ed will remember his ready smile, outgoing personality, sense of humour and love of family. He was always generous with his time and advice and had a way of making everyone around him feel incredibly special. We will fondly remember the annual family summer vacations, most often to Riding Mountain National Park, even though they generally involved moving what seemed like the entire contents of our home to the cabin! A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, April 24 at 2:00 p.m. at Thomson In the Park Funeral Home, 1291 McGillivray Boulevard. The family would like to thank the staff at St. Boniface Hospital, Dr. St. Goddard and the Palliative Care team. We would like to extend special thanks to Neil for the wonderful care provided to Ed in his final days. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Manitoba Lung Association or St. Boniface Palliative Care. THOMSON IN THE PARK 925-1120 Condolences may be sent to www.thomsoninthepark.com

  • Uncle Ed will always stick in my mind for his robust joy of living, which included hard work, learning, and having fun with friends and family. Will visiting with them in Winnipeg a few years ago he took me a tour of the places where the family had lived, including where I spent my first few years. Then back to the house in Tuxedo for a great steak! God Bless you Auntie & all the family as you mourn his loss and celebrate his life! - Posted by: Greg Dermody (Nephew) on: Apr 21, 2012
