RONALD (RON) PAUL ROCAN It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Ronald (Ron) Paul Rocan on April 18, 2012. Ron will be lovingly remembered and sadly missed by his wife of 40 years, Norma (née Pantel), daughters Jeanne Care (Darren) and Claudette Rocan (Tristan Smith), grandson Logan Care, sister Rachel, brother Denis (Anita), sisters-in-law Korenna Thorunson and Jeannette Greaves (Hugh), brother-in-law Pierre Aquin (Louise); cousins, numerous nieces and nephews and friends. Ron was predeceased by his parents, Maurille and Florence (née Dupas) Rocan, and sister-in-law Léa Pantel (Claude Buors). Ron was born and raised in Somerset, Manitoba. Ron's most precious memories of his childhood were the months he spent in Woodridge with his grandmother, Johanna Dupas. His introduction to books at this time led to a lifelong passion for reading. He also had a life-long interest in technology especially computers. Ron enjoyed history, stamp collecting, fishing, cribbage but most of all spending time with his family. Ron was a heavy-duty mechanic and self-taught handyman who excelled at all he undertook. Ron's last employment was with Keystone Western in Ile des Chênes and it was the highlight of his career. Ron was very appreciative for all the support and encouragement that his co-workers gave him following his unexpected illness. We wish to give heartfelt thanks to our families, friends and co-workers. Doris Fay, our life-long friend was a constant source of support and always made Ron laugh. Special thanks to friends, Roger, Beneta, Tip and Debbie who supported Ron throughout his journey. We would also like to express our sincere gratitude to Dr. Joel Gingerich, Cheryl and all the staff at Health Sciences Centre CancerCare as well as the entire staff of Unit 5E at the St-Boniface Hospital. Your compassion and excellent care will never be forgotten. An informal celebration of Ron's life will be held at Fort Gibraltar, 866 Saint Joseph Street on April 22, 2012 between the hours of 11:30 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. Cremation has taken place and a private interment in the Somerset Cemetery will occur at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Somerset Library, Somerset, MB R0G 2L0 or CancerCare, 675 McDermot Ave., Winnipeg, MB R3E 0V9. I remember being called on by Florence and Maurille to baby-sit several times for Ron and Rachel when they lived on Manitoba (pretty sure it was Manitoba--it was about 55 years ago). I recall enjoying listing to Hank Williams tunes on their record player. We did not have a player of our own. We have not stayed in direct touch, but some people are part of us wherever we go and regardless of the time that has passed.
