ELEANOR ANDERSTEDT Peacefully, and surrounded by family on April 30, 2012 at the E. M. Crowe Memorial Hospital, Eleanor Anderstedt, our Mom, Grandma and Great-Grandma passed away at the age of 83 years. Mom was born on August 26, 1928 in St. Boniface, MB. She grew up on her grandparent's farm located in St. Francis Xavier. Along with her Mom, they moved to Eriksdale, MB where Eleanor attended school. She met Hilding Anderstedt and they were later married in 1951. This union was blessed with six children. Eleanor returned to school to where she obtained her nursing degree and worked for many years at the E. M. Crowe Memorial Hospital in Eriksdale. Eleanor experienced some health issues and chose to retire from nursing at the age of 60. Mom had a very deep love for her pets that were mostly strays she had adopted. Any wild birds and squirrels had a place in her heart and were welcomed in her yard any time. Mom also enjoyed gardening, knitting and crocheting. She was an avid reader and she found it hard to put the book down until it was done. Her grandchildren fondly remember the wonderful visits they had at Grandma's house and recall the fun trips they would take together to Hecla Island. Mom and her good friend Frank Williment spent many hours travelling the countryside, whether it be fishing in Steep Rock or a trip over to Portage la Prairie to tour the many greenhouses - any reason to go for a ride. Family was very important to our Mom and she had a heart of gold. She was never afraid, however, to voice her opinion. She was also very proud of the accomplishments in her life. Our family would like to thank the doctors, nurses and staff of the E. M. Crowe Memorial Hospital for the wonderful care they gave our Mom and a very special thank you to her close friends that helped and supported her when she was at home. She is survived by her children: Ernie, Bev (Bill), Barb, Alan and Val (Lawrence); grandchildren: Amanda (Tony), Donna (Leon), Linda (Steven), Daniel, Susan (Eddy), Tammy (Andy), Tyrel (Courtney), Teresa (Clint), Ashley (Chris), Karissa (Cody), Christine, David, Gregory (Ashlee) and Stephanie, along with 23 great-grandchildren. Mom is predeceased by her daughter Sandra, her husband Hilding, and two grandsons Eric and Donald. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the E. M. Crowe Memorial Hospital Guild, c/o Irene Sigurdson, Box 474, Eriksdale, MB R0C 0W0 or to the Winnipeg Humane Society, 45 Hurst Way, Winnipeg, MB R3T 0R3. In keeping with Mom's wishes, cremation has taken place and a private family graveside service will be held at the Eriksdale Municipal Cemetery.
