DAVID MCMILLAN Peacefully after a brief illness, on Thursday, May 3, 2012, we said our final goodbyes to our husband, dad, grandpa and friend Allan David McMillan at the age of 72. David was the beloved husband of Beverley for 47 years. He will be forever remembered by his loving children Stephen, Christopher, Maureen (Steve) Cope; his treasured grandchildren Aric, Jersey and Kayleigh. David will be cherished by his loving sister Allison (Michael) McMullen; nephew Bruce (Lisa) McMullen; niece Heather (Simon) van der Plas; tante Kay Jack; cousins Norman (Janice) Jack and Susan (Dave) Gustafson, along with countless family and friends that will keep him alive with their special memories. David is predeceased by his parents Leslie and Margaret McMillan; auntie Jean Jack and uncle Allan Jack. David will forever be remembered by everyone for his second love, his love of trains, which he instilled in his children and grandchildren with their live sightings. He will also be remembered for his ability to drive short distances, over extended periods of time, visiting all of his long lost relatives, many times removed along the way. Every trip with David was an adventure. His voice was one of both calm and humour, emceeing almost all of the family special occasions with ease and enjoyment. He had an uncanny ability to organize and categorize everything. He is now free to fish every day in his special and remote fishing holes. In lieu of flowers, donations to The Kidney Foundation or the Heart and Stroke Foundation are welcomed. A Celebration of David's life will be held on Tuesday, May 8 at 1:00 p.m. in the Good Shepherd Church in Selkirk, MB. Gilbart's Funeral Home, Selkirk, in care of arrangements. www.gilbartfuneralhome.com

Condolences & Memories (10 entries)

  • I have lost a wonderful friend who had the magic ability of making you feel as if you were around him every day albeit in my case since 1967 I only saw him once at the last CHS re-union BUT our irregular e-mail contact was so great for me. I will miss him greatly. - Posted by: JACK POYNTER (CLASSMATE) on: May 20, 2012

  • Dave was a special man, who welcomed everyone into his life with warmth and humour. All my sympathy at this time. - Posted by: Charlene D. () on: May 12, 2012

  • Dave will be sadly missed and fondly remembered by our family. He was a good friend to my parents and we were honoured that he was able to speak at my father's passing this past year. He was kind and gentle and always there for his friends. - Posted by: Cara and Derrick Koenig and Family () on: May 09, 2012

  • I attended one of the reunions in North Bay and was thankful for the opportunity Dave gave us to reunite with so many friends from our college years. Bill and I also have fond memories of our visit with Dave and Beverley in Winnipeg in October 2003. Happy memories will keep you strong. - Posted by: Marg (Millar, Smith) Rothery (NBTC classmates) on: May 09, 2012

  • All of us who attended the NBTC reunions will be forever grateful to Dave for the wonderful job he did in organizing such successful and fun occasions. I was always in awe of the fact that he was able to do such an amazing job even though he did so from a different province. My sincere condolences to Bev and all of your family. There is no doubt that Dave will be sorely missed. - Posted by: Carole Beier (nee Hurst) (long-ago classmate from North Bay Teachers' College) on: May 07, 2012

  • What a friend. I have been part of this family for many years, from the time in knowing all of the Kossack family. Dave was a great friend and I was so happy that he lived next door to my parents. He was always there when they needed him. I remember my mom saying that it's like having a son and daughter next door. Always there for my boys, watching Braden curl in different provinces, provincials, coming to Blake's football games when it was -1 in fall. Dave was always there with Bev and a big smile on his face. I was at a concert on Saturday and a song came on by Louis Armstrong called A Wonderful World. Listen to it because it sure reminded me of him. There is so much I want to say but not enough room. My family is going to miss Dave alot, and I do mean alot. Bev, Maureen, Chris and Stephen you are so so lucky to have such a great man like him...Love Barb, Doug, Blake and Braden - Posted by: Doug/Doug Zawada (Friend/old neighbor) on: May 07, 2012

  • Dave was a wonderful volunteer and advocate for organ donation. We spent many hours together over the years at Transplant Manitoba activities-as the staff person, I was always asking for Dave's help-manning display booths, speaking to service groups and schools, "digging in' at the Garden of Life. Dave had a great sense of humor and really took advantage of every moment he gained after he received his kidney transplant. I no longer work at the Transplant Program, but I have many fond memories of our time together. I am saddened by his passing and my sincere condolences to Bev and family. - Posted by: Sybil Stokoloff () on: May 07, 2012
