JO-ANN MAY FISHER (PINKOWSKI) It is with deep sadness and heavy hearts I announce the passing of my dear mother Jo-Ann, at the Grace Hospital, on Wednesday, May 16, 2012. Left to forever cherish her memory are her son Derrick (Alison), Aunt Vicki, brother Ron (Vivian), sister-in-law Susan, extended family and many friends, especially Rose and Karen. Jo-Ann had a special companion, the late Darryl Hugh McFadyen who was reunited with her on May 22, 2012. It was comforting that she found someone so special to spend her last days with. He was a stand-up guy. Jo-Ann was born in Winnipeg on February 27, 1947. In the years after that, she had many adventures that took her to different places such as Edmonton, AB, Welland, ON , and El Estor, Guatemala. She returned to Winnipeg and spent the remainder of her days there with summer trips to Gimli spending time with the late Ruth and Don Fisher who treated her as their own. She never had it easy but always made the best of what she had and was very appreciative to all that would lend her a helping hand. She often put the needs of others above her own. I will always try to keep these admirable qualities in mind when living my life. Jo-Ann was my mother and was always there for me. I am truly grateful that I had a mother so special and caring. I always joked with her about being the Colombo of Moms; after talking with her on the phone, she would always call back and say Just one more thing . My sincerest thank you to Dr. Kramer and the staff of 3 north at the Grace Hospital. Their tremendous effort gave me more time with my mother and will not be forgotten. In compliance with Jo-Ann's wishes no formal funeral service will be held. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Canadian Liver Foundation in her honour. Just one more thing Mom... I love you always and forever. Funeral Arrangements in Care of Wheeler Funeral Home, Cemetery Crematorium. 1800 Day street. 224-1525

  • I had the privilege of working with Jo-Ann for a few years. My thoughts are with the fanily - Posted by: Pat Risbey (Co-Worker) on: Sep 29, 2013

  • I'm pretty sure Jo-Ann Fisher is the former Jo-Ann (Pinkowski) Pinky as she was known as a young girl at Gordon Bell School. We were very close friends from about grade 6-9, enjoying each other's company at school and at activities after school till she moved away and we lost touch. I'm saddened to read of her passing. My favourite memory of her is the time her mom made perogys with fruit as my mom did and we shared them, Jo-Ann giggling that she was eating the main meal with perogys and sugar. She was a good friend! - Posted by: Sylvia Neudorf Kehler (school friend) on: Jun 03, 2012

  • Derrick you know I never know what to say, so I will stick with my old stand-by. I LOVE YOU!! Meagan - Posted by: Meagan Hawkins (Derrick's Sister) on: May 28, 2012

  • We are sadddened that we did not have the opportunity to meet Jo Ann. Derrick and Alison both spoke of her with love and appreciation. A few weeks before Jo-Ann's hospitalization and passing, Derrick and Alison and I took a drive to Gimli to see Derrick's old stomping grounds. He made sure to go to the Icelandic bakery to get a special type of cake for us to sample before he carefully set aside the rest for his Mom. We send our condolences to Derrick and Alison, as well as other family members and friends who will miss her so very much. - Posted by: Ash & Elaine Whitehead (Parents of Alison) on: May 27, 2012
