GEORGE ALEXANDER SANTE It is with great sadness that our family announces the passing of George Alexander Sante on Wednesday, May 23, 2012, at the age of 89 years, at the Riverview Health Centre in Winnipeg, Manitoba. George was born in the Transcona area of Winnipeg on July 27, 1922. He was stationed in Debert, Nova Scotia, and served as an army cook during the Second World War. George married his wife, Alma, on September 7, 1946, in Truro, Nova Scotia, and he spent most of his career working for C.N. and later Via Rail in Winnipeg until his retirement in 1985, after 44 years of service. George enjoyed gardening and playing golf, and he was very involved in the Red, White, and Blue Railroaders ten pin bowling league which he co-founded in 1965. He held several positions within the bowling league and received numerous accolades including induction into the Bowling Hall of Fame of Manitoba and special recognition from the American Bowling Congress. George was predeceased by his parents Augusta and George Sante, and wife Alma, of 63 years. He is survived by son Les (Donna) of Winnipeg; daughter Cheryl (John) of Bissett; four grandchildren: Terri of Winnipeg and Scott, Laura (Troy), and Trevor of Bissett; and sisters Florence and Hilda of Winnipeg. As a father, grandfather, and brother, George will be sincerely missed, but we will take comfort in the memories we have of him that will stay with us forever. Funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 29 at Thomson In the Park Funeral Home, 1291 McGillivray Boulevard. • I was very sorry to hear of George's passing amd my condolences go out to all the family. He was a very good friend to my late husband and most helpful to me in time of need. George will be missed. Sincerely, Frances, Widow of Nick Minishka. - Posted by: Mrs. Frances Minishka (Friend) on: May 27, 2012

  • During the summers I was fortunate enough to work with George as a Red Cap Porter at the Union Station. George taught me the tricks of being a good Red Cap. I especially remember the afternoons, between shifts, when we would go to Tuxedo Golf Course for a fast 9 holes, jumping on George's motor scooter, with 2 sets of golf clubs, and away we would go. My father who was then working in the Information Bureau thought as much of George as I did and still do. He will be always remembered. - Posted by: GARY WHYTE (CNR FRIEND) on: May 26, 2012

  • George I will miss seeing you at the bowling alley. You will be missed on and off the lanes. Thanks for your many years on the WTBA board. You were my inspiration. Rest in peace and say hello to all that have left the bowling community. - Posted by: Ron Molinski (Friend) on: May 26, 2012
