HILDA MORRISH 1922 - 2012 Hilda was born to Ernest and Gertrude Fiske on April 10, 1922 in Hove, a south coast town in the county of Sussex in England. The war was in full swing when Hilda graduated from Worthing High School just down the coast from Hove, left home, and found employment with the US Engineers in Cheltenham, Gloucestershire. Some of the many friendships made during that time became life-long. During and after the war Hilda was posted to Paris and to Germany, where she caught the travel bug! After she returned to England it wasn't long before she headed west to the US and to Canada, where she settled in Vancouver for a while, finding work in the Physics Department at U.B.C. It is here she met and in 1952, married Allan Morrish. Their two children were born during travels to study and work at different universities around the world, John in Oxford and Allan in Minneapolis. The family settled in Winnipeg in 1964 where the boys grew up and went to school. Hilda went back to school too and received her Bachelor of Education degree in 1976. She quickly found work at St. Mary's Academy where she worked as the librarian until her retirement in 1986. Retirement for Hilda was the start of an amazingly active lifestyle. Her summers revolved around her beloved cottage at Victoria Beach - tennis, bridge, kayaking, sailing, swimming, Scrabble, blueberry picking, council meetings, dog shows, bike riding, visiting friends and family, to Vancouver for the skiing with Lorna (from the war days!), Hawaii, Belize, and many more. Hilda is survived by her sons John and Allan, and grandchildren Madelaine and Andrew. She will be missed with sadness by her many friends who have valued her company and her loyalty. The funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, June 1 at Fort Garry United Church, 800 Point Road, Winnipeg. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Victoria Beach Club or to Manitoba Schizophrenia. THOMSON "IN THE PARK" 925-1120 Condolences may be sent to www.thomsoninthepark.com
