ANNE MALIS (DUCHECK)
Date of Passing: Jun 01, 2012
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryANNE MALIS (DUCHECK) Anne Malis, aged 98, passed away peacefully with family by her side on June 1, 2012, at Seven Oaks Hospital. Anne was born on April 23, 1914, on the family homestead in Rossdale, MB. Anne's parents had emigrated from Ukraine and the family worked hard to be self-sufficient. On September 23, 1932, Anne married Frank Malis. Their first home was in Narol, MB, and together with Frank's family they worked the family farm growing vegetables for sale at the markets in Winnipeg. In 1948, Anne and Frank moved to Selkirk, where they established Malis Motors Pontiac Buick GMC Dealership. Anne loved her new home on Eveline and set to raise their three children of the time as well as care for Frank s mother and brother Leo. In 1952, and then 1955, two more children were welcomed into the family. In 1964, Anne joined the workforce and became Malis Motors' Chief Financial Officer. Anything that Anne did she did thoroughly, never backing down from a challenge. She was a woman of strong faith, a committed member of Notre Dame Church and the C.W.L. She was also an active member of the community working on the Selkirk Ladies Hospital Auxiliary and Selkirk Rotary-Ann's. Mom loved to cook and made healthy, tasty meals for her family and anyone Dad would bring over, usually last minute. She also loved to knit, crochet, do needlepoint and petit-point, producing many beautiful pieces of work. She was an avid gardener and loved to grow and care for indoor and outdoor plants. She retired from Malis Motors in 1979, and went on to enjoy golfing, traveling, visiting family in various parts of the country, including two trips to Europe. Mom's last place of residence, before the Maples Care Home, was St. Benedict s Place. Mom was so happy there as she would go to pray in the evenings, attend weekly Masses and receive loving care and share a deep friendship with the Sisters of St. Benedict's and their staff. The family is so grateful to the Sisters for this and so much more. The family wishes to thank all the staff at the Maples for their kind care during her stay there. Also, we extend our gratitude for the wonderful care that Mom received at S.O.G.H. in the fall of 2011, with special thanks to Rose Dziadekwich, Dr. Abbott, the ER staff, Dr. Bialy and staff of 5U7 and 5U1, especially Evelyn Mitchell. Anne is survived by her son Ron (Helga, Gisèle) and children, Denise (Shaun), Vivian (Garry; deceased), Blair (Sue), Maureen (Peter), John (Gabrielle), Marilyn (Gord); daughter-in-law Sylvia and children Michele (Gary) and Craig; son Tom (Margaret) and children Kirsten and Anders; daughter Elizabeth (Robert) and children Melissa (Robert) and Nathaniel; son Greg (Mary Anne) and children Kassia and Erin. She is also survived by great-grandchildren Mekkin, Sarah, Stephanie, Emily, Michael, Freya, Keiran, Marshall, Oliver, Elin, Ava, Abigail and Sadie. Anne was predeceased by her parents Phillip and Anne; husband Frank (1975); brothers Henry (1997), Joe (2005), Peter (2007), Frank (2007); sister Agnes (Burdiak) (1995) and son Ernie (2009). Funeral Mass will be held on Wednesday, June 6, at 10:30 a.m. in the Notre Dame Church, 269 Jemima St., Selkirk, MB. Celebrants will be Father Dado, Father Art Seaman and Msgr. Louis McClousky. Dear Liz and the Entire Malis Family: Aunty Anne has joined the rest of her siblings up in Heaven and I know that they have welcomed her with great big open arms, especially my Grama/Aunty Aggie!!!! She was a very special lady to me in my life and meant the world to me as both my Great-Aunt and GodMother. I am so very glad that even though I was not able to come and see her, I was able to stay in touch through telephone calls and cards. You are in my thoughts and prayers through this difficult time. Love Always, Cheryl - Posted by: Cheryl Saba (Great Niece and Goddaughter) on: Jun 04, 2012

Anne was known as a kind lady who I knew from Malis Motors where I bought my first car (Acadian) in 1962. And of course from Notre Dame church, where husband Frank steered the committee to build the new church and Ernie was a fellow choir member in the early sixties. My sympathies to the family and will remember her in my prayers, especially on Wednesday. - Posted by: Frank Niesink - St. Catharines Ontario (Acquaintance) on: Jun 04, 2012

I have many fond memories of Auntie Anne. All of the times as a young girl we came to Winnipeg and stayed on the farm and later the home in Selkirk. We loved staying with Auntie Anne and Uncle Frank, and we had so much fun while we were there. I will miss her, but I will keep her in my heart. Love and prayers to all of the family. My Auntie Anne was a special person and one of my favorite aunts. She was a classy lady and a class person in all aspects. I live far away from Winnipeg (Michigan) but always looked forward to hearing from her and on special occasions being in her presence. The last time I saw her was at her 90th birthday celebration in 2004. That was a wonderful time for my sister, Rith and I, to see Anne and visit with all of our cousins who we almost never see. She will be missed. - Posted by: Carole Figures (Niece) on: Jun 03, 2012
