REV. ARNIE NORMAN NEUFELD 1944 2012 Arnie Neufeld, a beloved husband, father and grandfather passed away on May 28, 2012 in Winnipeg as the result of complications from a chronic heart condition. He was 67 years old. He is survived by his beloved wife, Trudi (nee Klassen) of Winkler, one daughter, Christine and Kent Rygiel (Liam, Brontë) of Winnipeg, two sons, Matthew Neufeld of Saskatoon, SK, Michael Neufeld of Winkler. He is survived by two sisters, Linda and George Buhler of Whiterock, BC, Alvena Neufeld of Winnipeg and one brother, Len and Marlene Neufeld of Brandon, MB, and sister-in-law Ruth Neufeld of Winkler. He was predeceased by brothers Herbie, John, and Jake. Arnie Neufeld was born in Winkler, Manitoba. His parents, George W. and Justina (Elizabeth) Neufeld farmed north of Horndean throughout most of Arnie's childhood and youth. These years were fondly remembered and crucially important for fostering many of Arnie's guiding passions, which included the prairie landscape, service to the local community and involvement in the church. Arnie's deepest desire was to work on behalf of the gospel of Christ Jesus. He did so in variety of professional settings: as a school teacher, as an Instructor of historical theology, as the owner of Christian bookstore, and as a pastor to congregations in Alberta, Ontario and Winkler. Arnie loved to collect and to tell stories. Just prior to his passing, Arnie received an award from the Association for Manitoba Archives for his work preserving the life stories of Winkler residents. He was deeply curious about the wider world and loved travelling. A humble, quiet, gentle and gracious man, Arnie was a model of thoroughness, faithfulness and loving-kindness. His was a beautiful soul that blessed many lives. Memorial service will be held (today) Saturday at 11:00 a.m. at Winkler Bergthaler Mennonite Church 252 6th St. with private interment at Westridge Memorial Gardens. Arnie's family is profoundly grateful to the paramedics, doctors and nurses working at St Boniface Hospital Emergency for their heroic efforts and exceptional empathy. If friends so desire, donations may be made in Arnie's memory to either the Heart and Stroke Foundation or to the Children's Camps International, both available at the church. Condolences & Memories (2 entries)

  • Betty and I were saddened to learn of Arnie's passing to glory this week. My, how the years have flown! I first met Arnie some 48 years ago at Winkler Bible School, and then we would reconnect 3 years later at MBBC, and to graduate together, was also very special. I appreciated his quiet demeanor, his deep discussions, even his creative spirit. Even now I can recite a number of lines of a song he wrote in high school which became meaningful to this guy. We appreciated our coffee visit some 5 years back on our return trip from a BC winter adventure. Trudy, I have also notified my sister Connie, who sends her condolences as well. She empathizes, having lost her first husband to cancer 20 years ago, and wishes God's strength for you in the coming days, as do we. Should we be able to visit our friends in Manitoba next year we will try to look you up. Wishing you God's peace, Dave and Betty Hamm. - Posted by: Dave Hamm (friend and classmate) on: Jun 03, 2012

  • I have not seen Arnie in 40 years but remember him as a wonderful person and classmate. - Posted by: Amaryllis Holloway (School Friend) on: Jun 03, 2012
