JAKOB GRUENING May 15, 1928 - May 31, 2012 In the morning of May 31, 2012, Jakob died peacefully with his family by his side at the age of 84 years. He was predeceased by his father Peter, mother Justina, brothers Peter and Franz, and sister Tina in Germany. Jakob was also predeceased by his wife's parents Fredrick and Emma Wekwert, brothers-in-law Waldemar, Ernest, Edmund and Paul, and his sister-in-law Margarete. Jakob was born in Schoendorf, Ukraine. In 1951 he met Leokadia in Germany. They married in 1953 and immigrated to Canada in the same year, settling in Winnipeg, which became their permanent home. Jakob is survived by his wife Leokadia, children Helga, Peter and Christine and grandchildren Monika, Matthew and Emily. In 2008, Jakob moved into Bethania Personal Care Home living there until his passing. His family would like to thank the nurses and health care aides of North Nursing Station and the staff for their caring and support. A service will be held on Tuesday, June 5, 2012 at 1:30 p.m. at the Chapel in Bethania Personal Care Home, 1045 Concordia Avenue, Winnipeg, Manitoba, phone 667-0795.
