RUBY MARIE ZOI RICHARD (nee GUIBOCHE) 1930 - 2012 It is with sadness that the family announces the passing of Ruby Richard on June 14, 2012, at Poseidon Nursing Home at the age of 82. Ruby was born to Dieudonne and Marie Guiboche (nee Desrochers), in Camperville, Manitoba, on April 24, 1930. She was the oldest of 12 children and spent her early years in Camperville, where she learned how to multi-task before multi-tasking was in - she would buy furs from locals trappers, stock shelves in her grandparents store, sort the mail, clean fish and play cards. She was also known as the local performer who loved playing the accordian and singing for all community dances. Ruby was predeceased by her husband William Richard (March 2010) and son Richie (1961), her first husband Arnold Phripp (1949), and her grandsons Dana Anderson (1996) and Patrick Phripp (2000). Left to cherish her memory are her children Frank and Arnold Phripp, Shelley, Trymer, Wanda, Marcy and Bonnie Richard. Her pride and joy were her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Dawn Waud (Anderson), Jaime Richard, Charlene Richard, Jennifer Hysert (Richard), Frankie Phripp, Tyler Perreaux and Zachariah Johnston, her great-grandchildren, Jazmin and Mikey Hysert, Reid Perreaux, Avery, Emma and Davis Waud. Ruby's surviving siblings are Eva Gelfand, Leona Hodgson, Fortunate Guiboche, Solange Guiboche, Maureen Penner, Mildred Guiboche, Merle Fagnan, Joan Ledoux and Yvonne Ballantyne. Ruby and first husband Arnold Phripp had two sons - Arnold and Frank Phripp. Frankie was two and Arnold was not yet born when Ruby lost her first husband, tragically in a boating accident on Lake Winnipegosis. Ruby then married William Richard whom she always referred to as her keywasnee, on March 17, 1956, and together they had five children - Shelley, Trymer, Wanda, Marcy and Bonnie. Before retiring to Brandon in 1985, they lived in Thompson, Manitoba, where Richard worked for INCO. In Ruby's early years in Thompson, she was active in the church, community and political organizations. One of her favourite areas of interest was with the Manitoba Metis Federation in Thompson, she volunteered with this organization for many years. Ruby was also a volunteer with the Liberal Party in the early 1970s and spent many hours driving to and from meetings in Winnipeg and Brandon. Wherever she went, Ruby was known as the hat lady as she never left the house without a hat, they were always colorful and stylish. In the later years, her hat became a baseball cap and she was just as happy wearing a baseball cap as she was wearing the purple one. For all her life, Ruby was always giving of herself to others in need. She had an abundance of generosity and love, and was there to help everyone my girl. She had and wore many hats, whether it was caring for the sick, or shopping and cleaning for a friend in need, she was always there to do what was needed. The family also acknowledges the staff of the Poseidon Personal Care Home, where Mom spent the last eight years of her life. The staff were always caring, compassionate and supportive of the family.
